Hat Stand pics

I went to my local western wear shop and took a walk through the cowboy hats. All of there hats were on plastic stands and I inquired to the price. She said they go for $4.50 a piece. I snatched one up and thought it might be of some intrest for some gearheads here. I know enough about the headaches for storing a hat now.

Here's a pic of my Fed on the stand.

Noggintops also sell those, by themselves and as part of their hat care kits.

I was interested in them, but the tapered shape worries me a little. If the hat doesn't directly onto the little rim around the bottom, but instead sits higher up the stand's shape, is there not a danger it will, over time, add to the taper of the hat?

I dunno. For now I'm just making stands out of cardboard. :D

No it shouldn't lead it to taper, the way it was explained to me is that it is one size fits all and that is why there is that angled edge. The hat doesn't sit on the edge at the bottom, it rests on that angle. The hat will rest up or down on that edge depending on how big the hat size is; the larger at the bottom. With the pressure of the sitting hat resting soley on the edge it keeps the sides from falling and the brim from being distorted. That's at least how it was explained to me by the hat expert at the store.

That's not saying I didn't just invest in a plastic piece of snake oil.

Hope that helps :D

Erin, I have two exactly like that. I have not had any problems with them. I wear a 7 5/8 and they fit fine.

that thing is so ugly it NEEDS a hat on it

the good news, when the hat is off you won't have to look at it since the hat will be on your head

I've been using these exact hat holder for years, and they will not harm the hat's shape... unless maybe if you really jam the hat down on it. I just rest the hat gently on the holder. Or, if you prefer, put a hat stretcher in the hat and balance the hat and stretcher on the holder. I love these.

I don't see any danger in putting the hat on that stand...but that's just my opinion

I have one and have used it for quite awhile. It hasn't had any effect on the hat. I do have a hat holder that I like better, that I had at the Finger Lakes Summit.

Ditto. Never a problem.

BTW: they are cheaper by the half dozen.

Noggintops is a no-go for me at the moment, as they don't accept PayPal, nor can I get my debit card to work on their store.

It's a real shame, cos I had several things I wanted to get from there, but now I have to spread the order out over all different places. Pain.

I figured it would work fine but thanks for the reassurance from experience. I figured if someone from a hat store would sell them then they should work fine. I've just read so many threads here where people are having issue storing their hats, and creating makeshift storage for them, I thought I would show an option that could work, and is cheap.

I'm going to look for a hat stretcher though CaptainRonSolo gave me a website for them.

I appreciate the info guys. :D

What was that saying, "A penny saved..........?" "Is a penny for another hat?"

... another hat, a certain movie themed jacket... a whip. Yeah, anytime to save a cent or two is a good time.

Everything old is new again, so there might be more who know than you think. I learned that lesson when I heard 14 year-olds talking about how much they liked "Devil Went Down to Georgia" by Charlie Daniels and debating the better Voltron!
