i have a question:
i am doing a shoot for a local rag and i am playing the part of you-know-who.
i have decent equivalents for just about every piece of gear but the revolver.
i DO have a 4" SS rossi (looks like a smith or taurus clone) in .357 mag.
it fits brilliantly in the todds basic 1917. (thanks todd).

however, it has a full lug barrel, is SS, and has rubber grips. (modern)

so, is it better to have a more "modern" gun, or an empty holster?

btw, the shoot is tomorrow night, so its basically a matter of yes or no.

I see you have three options,

first go down to big lots or someplace like that and get a cheap toy that will sorta pass

second go with what you have and ah...hope they don't have a problem with your gun during the shoot [as long as it is in the holster it will be hard to see it anyway

three go with an empty holster and HOPE 2 sword wielding Thuggees don't show up to keep you from crossing the bridge

Considering that Indy was carrying a modern-looking Colt 1911 (yes, it IS an OLD gun, but I think semi-automatics look 'modern'), then yep, you probably can get away with that.

I find that an empty holster holds a banana quite well - and it's a great source of energy when taking on villians...not to mention that the peel can be very helpful when giving someone the "slip"

An empty holster even holds a cell phone quite nicely. The banana is a good idea, too. In fact, in ToD when Indy is searching frantically through his holster, he was hoping to produce a banana because he thought giving the bad guys something to eat would make them less angry. But alas, Indy had no banana.

Where did that happen in the films? Are you talking about the Browning P35 he carried in Raiders?

I was trying to think of the scene where he has the auto (bar scene) - I am going to look again - doesn't he start with the revolver and aquire the auto?

For a photoshoot the barrel and finish won't matter if it's holstered, and with the flap closed even the grip won't show much.

Can you find some brown fabric tape or white medical-type tape and then just color/paint it brown?

Voila, a "wood-colored revolver handle" in your holster, suitable for distance shots.

Next, go on eBay or one of the gun auction sites and get some wood grips for that Rossi so there won't be as much of a problem next time.
