Felt Stiffener

Post by Dr.Seuss »

Anyone with Scout Stiffener experience? Seems like you can "spray away," and not receive much effect. Is the stiffener steam activated, or does it simply require a good liberal squirting to get any body?

i tried spray stiffner on my hj.....left the felt kind of 'distressed' looking with not much of a stiffening effect...it had a small stiffening effect but the felt started to look kinda 'shaggy/rough' looking..also made a mess of steve's iron during a reblock...sorry steve :(

Might be like clothes. If you wash them with the startch, it saturates and does it's job when you iron vs just spraying on as you iron where the top is only affected. So you are most likely right in steaming as you startch.

If you can get at the inside of the crown (take out the liner or whatever) maybe it works better if you spray from the inside. Steam or no steam, that would at least leave the outside surface unaffected, and doing it that way, you might get more activation from the stiffener simply from the heat and moisture of your head.

That's what I'd try, I think.
