I'm not taking credit for any of this. These techniques were invented by other folks, so credit where credit is due...thanks Fedora, 3k$, AC, Dalexs, and others, I have a great SOC now!

Also, I put these pics into links, but if the Mods think it would be better in pics, thats fine too.

I started out with this bushman with a regular Akubra Fed Ribbon and bow.

very nicely done kaplan!

great tutorial if i may add. once you put the 'scrunch' on your crown, did you find the brim harder to bash? i found that you NEED stiffener in the brim in order to bash it correctly after the crown gets cinched.

Thanks G! Sorry I missed this question earlier. I'm having a hard time visualizing what you are saying. My brim has gotten a bit flatter since my crown has become shroomy though. Do you have a bushman as well?

Hey man, yours is great too...you just have to tear its guts out, trust me. It made all the difference for mine. It really has to be the way the hero film hat was.

It's really tough to work up the courage though.

nope but i sure am considering it. i've played around the the cinch...it not only gives you an sa crown but it also carries on the pleatyness (if thats a word) into the brim....gotta be careful as its quite tricky to control.

nope but i sure am considering it. i've played around the the cinch...it not only gives you an sa crown but it also carries on the pleatyness (if thats a word) into the brim....gotta be careful as its quite tricky to control.

I think I need to tighten my ribbon more. This should make the pleat more defined. I'm also going to make the bow knot smaller. I'll be sure to show better pics of the brim when I'm finished.

Looking good. What's it like wearing a hat "raw", with no band in it? Isn't it terribly itchy?

Thanks. No, not itchy. It feels really comfortable, but it does feel like a stiff breeze would send it flying.

Makes sense. But I guess you mostly the wind is warm and very gentle between the buildings of downtown Cairo.
