Dress hats are dandy.
How about posting pictures of your SOC/shabby styles? Fullers is optional.

GCR:
That's what I'm talking about! Adventurer's hat; rough and tumble, down and dirty. Now I know why the rabbit AB caught my eye, when you posted your collection, -- SOC.
Samuel:
No credit for making the hat(s), just for beating it up. Actually they are one and the same, but between the shots, she was reshaped (steamed into oblivion and stretched over a Fedora's Raiders Block) and then rebashed, so to speak.
The crowns appear tall, partially due to the brim width. She is an older PB Custom (was told it was a "_" version), 2 1/2 side brim, and roughly 2 5/8 front and back brim. Always seemed "skimpy" on the brim. The crown, after all the reshaping/block steaming abuse, starts, pre-crease at just shy of 5 3/4. Bashed, the front pinch is roughly 5 inches.
That hat is indestructible, although the proportions are less than SA.

Not SOC exactly but certainly shabby. This is it in relatively good condition. My old Keppler (RIP).

Another outstanding Adventurer's lid. Have not seen a Keppler posted in a bit. It's got character! Thanks Ken.
BTW: What's the story on the stained rock, behind you?

Unfortunately I think its just some random graffitti on the rock behind - the shots were taken in the desert out near Victorville California when we were filming on Treasure of the Templars. The hat is in much worse condition now - has a permanent taper, has lost both the liner and sweatband - you can see from the photos it just doesn't sit on my head as well as it used to:

You DESPERATELY need to send that to Steve Delk to have rebuilt, Ken!
It's a part of the history of the hobby now. Don't let it get to far gone.

I dont know - I kind of like the idea of just retiring it how it is. ITs now a relic of Templars and I'll just preserve it as such- I have an AB currently undergoing some construction with Steve and my feeling is to make that my new Indy hat, which will from now on accompany me on all adventures.

The truth of the matter is, the SOC hat just looks like it is in need of a refurbish. The felt has sagged, and bulged and lost the traditional fedora, clean and crisp good look. It looks like a worn out hat, but without the holes. And that is why I love it so much!! But, with that said, it is hard to get that look without beating the hat up and yes, crushing it by sitting on it. If after one sitting, it still doesn't have the proper look, sit on it as many times as it takes. If the hat has stiffener, you will need to break this down before it approaches the look many of us like. The stiffener is put in a new hat to help maintain the new look. When someone ordera a hat from me that they want to look like one of the distressed Indy fedora, that is a tall order. Mainly because I do not feel comfortable beating up a new hat, for someone else. And, that is easy to so yourself. Most can tear up a steel ball with a feather.

A couple of styling notes/thoughts from a hatter.
BTW: The quoted portion is a squib from Aeris Canon.
(Incredible, the material which is available in the threads.)

Ken,
Out of curiostity, is that rock behind you (not the spray painted one from the prior conversation) the same location as the one used in... well, let me see; the original Star Trek series "Arena" episode and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey?

This is my Peter's Bros. I bought it around 2003. It has the prerequisite early PB tall crown and narrow brim. This was the first real Indy hat I owned. I owned 2 Stetsons and 1 Dorfman prior to getting this hat, which I purchased due to a lot of what was said on these very boards.
When I got this hat, it was bullet-proof stiff. Now it is quite soft. It has never been re-blocked or cleaned. In fact, I don't think I ever even brushed it. It was my daily wear hat from the time I got it until May of 2006 when I got my ABD. Now it is my dirty work , work in the yard hat. It is a very good friend indeed.
Oh yeah, this is the hat I've mentioned before. You know, the one that looks grey/gray in certain lighting conditions (Dives for cover under Michaelson's Plymouth. Don't worry I've got coffee and bug spray
)
