Well, after sending back two Todd jackets I've now got a new Wested in horsehide. First off, many thanks to Peter for getting this to my door in just three weeks from taking my order over the phone!
The leather is very tough feeling without being stiff and is a little heavier than my previous goat. I'm very happy with it and look forward to how it will age ( I won't be giving it so much help this time!)
My only concern is the sleeve length. I asked for sleeves a little longer than on my last jacket - and they are actually longer. Somehow the better fit of the jacket means they reach the same point on my hand as the shorter sleeves on my goat. I'm mulling over whether or not it's worth changing.

I think you should feel the jacket. If it feels nice on your arms, then keep it, because it really looks awesome!

It looks great! In my eyes the sleeves look just right.

And you will love how the horsehide starts breaking in very soon! Mine almost adapted the shape of the body after only two months or so!

Congrats on the new jacket, the wested Horsehide is a great leather!

I agree, whiskyman. That jacket looks great - sleeves look just right to me. I'd be very happy with it.

Thanks for the input guys! I've just been round at Indy Breineder's to get his advice too. I think I'll settle for the sleeves as they are. Because of the smaller arm holes (my only special request other than no inside facings), the sleeves don't ride up as far as on my older jacket anyway.

whiskey, i couldn't see anything wrong with the fit of that jacket. it looks perfect on you. be reassured that keeping it the same is the right decision.

Just my observation, but I'd hold off making a final decision on the sleeve length until you've worn it for a while. Depending on how much you lose in the bend of elbow, that will eventually determine how short the sleeve will be at your wrist.

From your photos, it doesn't appear much as been used at the elbow yet. You'll REALLY notice how short it can be when you wear the jacket when driving your car and have your hands out in front of you on the steering wheel. It appears the sleeves may end up being a little shorter than you want.....but might be something that's not 'going after' in a return.

Give it a little time.

every time I see a HH Indy jacket I start thinking "that is my next jacket". Your pics are not helping me with my 12 step program for buying jackets. The jacket looks great and the sleeves have a nice taper to them.

You won't regret! I loved my old goatskin, but the horsehide-jacket is ... to quote my favourite actor "dynamite"-jacket.

It feels and drapes very comfortable and nonetheless it's - how do you call it? - "tough as nails"!

The horsehide looks better than I expected. I've orderd my Wested LC jacket just a few days ago, and I asked for the "more durable material" which I assumed is between the horse, goat, and cowhide (although goat was not an option on the website.) I'm waiting for a response from Gemma regarding the leather choice.

Is it just me, or does the collar meet the storm flap at the mid point on this HH jacket? It does look great and the arm length is fine and suits your build.

What size is it?

I really think the front of the jacket looks like a perfect fit, but the back looks a little on the wide side... But then again, this is a problem for most Indy jackets, and Horsehide doesn't help that blockiness at all...

I wonder if maybe it would perhaps look better with a tapered back panel?

In any event, I'm sure once that things breaks in a little, you'll have a keeper (as the Gearheads are fond of saying)

the jacket looks great, it looks like an excellent fit. I have a horsehide too and I love the leather.

Just out of curiousity, you said you ordered two jackets from Todd before ordering this one. What were the problems with Todd's jackets and do you like this one better?

He sold one to me because it was a bit too large for him. It's a cowhide. I love the jacket

So what happened with the one jacket left?

Well I sent the jacket back a week or two after getting it because some stitching was loose. After a few more weeks I rang them up to see what had become of my jacket and was told it would be shipped at the end of that week. Three more weeks down the line and it's obviously not been sent. I will phone tomorow and ask for a refund. They can keep the jacket. I'm now through with Indy jackets :evil:

Such a thing can happen with any handmade garment and could be easily fixed locally, without sending it back.

Well of course loose stitching can be fixed locally - but why should I pay someone to fix a brand new jacket when Wested claim they will repair "mistakes" for free and refund the postage?
As it is, the postage has not been refunded and 5 weeks later I'm still without jacket. How long can it take to fix 3cm of loose stitching? I wish I'd never ordered it.

I've never known of Wested to refund the postage. I've always understood that they happily repair or alter jackets for free... but I've never heard of them refunding the postage costs involved in doing that kind of thing, sorry.

If there is a problem and it needs to be returned do not wear it but return it to us. Enclose full details of the problem so we can remedy it.

From outside UK. Package & Documentation clearly marked ' JACKET PURCHASED FROM ENGLAND AND BEING RETURNED FOR ALTERATION/REPAIR' and 'RETURNED GOODS' (on customs declaration) ticked otherwise it will treated as an import and incur customs charges. .

PAY for the postage as we will not except charges and if the problem is our fault we will refund the cost. Do not use FEDEX or UPS as they charge a handling fee in the UK.

Glad you like the jacket Erri - but I haven't seen it for over 5 weeks so no more pics

Nick, I had a huge problem wih Wested when it came to the rocketeer jacket I ordered from them. They use my measurments from my indy jacket not the ones I sent them.

I sent it back and they said they couldn't make it because my chest and shoulder's are so much more than my waist.

it took them almost 5 months to get the refund to me.

I hope you have better uck than I did. You must stay on top of them or they will forget you.

Well I spoke with Wested and they were pretty surprised as according to their records the jacket was sent out a few weeks ago. Normally shipping should take a week at most from the UK so it seems to have gone AWOL. I will know more soon, once Wested have grilled ParcelForce.

A jacket I once ordered is now on the back of someone at Vanderbilt University, 70 miles north of me. It was delivered there by mistake, instead of MY address at the University of Tennessee. I guess they thought all universities in Tennessee were the same.

We had the signature of the person who accepted the jacket and everything, but no one had a clue what happened to the jacket, so Wested had to make me another.

You know.. the FS goatskin I just got today fits me almost EXACTLY how it fits you, and I'm completely stressed that the sleeves are way too short. am I just completely out of my mind?

Michaelson. I love the way you write things. I bet the guy that got it was thrilled though. Lets just hope the sleeve length was correct for him! I assume the delivery company paid for the second jacket since it was obviously their mistake.

Actually, sadly, he probably had no idea what he had. When I visited Wested a number of years ago, the guy I went with also bought an Indy Jacket for his son. Well one of his friends "buddys" made off with the coat at some point leaving the guy coatless. The world is full of all kinds eh? But I do believe you reap what you sow.

Yesterday I got my jacket back! Which is to say that I got the replacement jacket that Wested made up for me from my original order. It seems the first one was lost by Parcelforce (not by Wested). I think it's very decent that Wested made me up a new one (and I asked for another inch in the sleeves this time around), at their own cost until they get reimbursed by Parcelforce.
Anyway, the jacket is an even better fit than the original and I love it to bits. No inside facings really adds to the drape too. All's well at last!

Wow that's weird, Wested told me that Parcel Force lost my HH jacket too!! Mine was shipped on OCt 5th and never made it out of the parcel force warehouse, so I'm told. Maybe someone at parcel force is taking the Wested jackets!!!!!

Now they said they can ship me a new one but I'm not sure if they are making me a totally new jacket or sending me OTR because they said they could get it to me by Halloween

I ordered my Wested HH last February and received 8 weeks later. I only got to wear it a few times before the warm weather set in, but now that it is cooling off I've been sporting it quite a bit. I ordered the 80's slim fit, so it fits me very well. It was a little stiff, and I worried that it was a bit too stiff and snug at first. However, it broke in quickly and now I feel it fits me like a nicely draped glove. Of course, I also recently purchased an Aero HH A-2 jacket, which some of you know when new is sort of like trying to wear iron armor, so the Wested HH now feels like lambskin in comparison. I love my Wested, I have been very happy with it.

Indiana Lurch, as far as I know all HH are made to order, there are not that many ordered. Most otrs are lambskin, however there are a few OTR novapelles there right now.

Not an idiot at all.

This is what it looks like in bright sunshine:

It's a 'slightly' distressed cowhide, making it very soft and very easily naturally distressing, after a very small amount of wear, edges and the surface that rub on anything will start to show marking. I'm inordinately loving this leather right now it's the one on my newest jacket.

It is the only predistressed that I have liked, the others all looked too distressed and 'dusty' for my taste. This one looks as dark as the authentic brown when new.
