Hello, noob with Peters Bros.question.

I received a Peters Bros. custom Indy about a week ago. When I took it out of the box it fit great, looks great, except that the front of the brim did not turn down but actually went up a little. I called Peters Bros. and they said expose it to shower steam and Icould turn it down. I read somewhere on here about using distilled water so I tried that. The distilled water worked great, I am just wondering if this was harmless to the hat. Any information is much appreciated.

It will cause no problems at all.

You have nothing to worry about what so ever.

The distilled water is probably safer than the steam. It won't hurt the hat.

Where did that second post come from? It wasn't there when I started typing. I guess this is just another example that you type faster than I do.

Welcome aboard. Just to add my two cents. I think you are ok now. If you have it the way you like it , leave it alone. The current PB bleed alot with water and will tapper if you use to much water. Just a sprits of water don't soak it.

The custom PB's do now, Oak?!

When did THAT start?! They never did before!!#-o

I know the PBBM's can, but NEVER heard of a custom doing that.

I have soaked, steamed, bent, pulled, twisted, shaped, re-shaped and crushed my PB Custom. It appears little different than when new. Somewhat "softer," and a few more mileage lines, of course.

I found the hat became considerably more comfortable after those workouts. It is somewhat amazing when contemplating the "abuse" and natural distressing that hat has taken. Great hat, Indycop.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the info! As for the username, I was going to use my own name but apparently John is pretty common (go figure) so I went with this one.

I originally planned to get the adventurebilt. I contacted steve who if I am not mistaken is fedora on here. I did email him back to let him know I want to do layaway but haven't heard back from him. Understood him to be very busy so, I Ended up getting the pb to hold me over and for the quick turnaround so I could have it by vacation time. I will try again after vacation.

I had three PB cusome. 2 brown and 1 grey. Both browns bleed. the grey I sold shortly having boaght it ( never wore it much). The 2 browns I still have. It was around the time that Joe took of from PB. I've only had one fedora that I was completely happy with ( or I should say a few hats from one company). I don't think I've owned every hat thats offered but I have owned a bunch.
I'm very picky about the hat like no other.

Indycop , just give a few days and he' will get to you. Steve ( in my book ) is the best period..

if I had the $ to spend on hat that was going to hold me ( like you stated) until getting the mother load of all fedora's ( AB or delux). I would go with either akubra or JPD or campton. I havent owned the Akubra or the campton. I think jimmy's felt is different than what he was using at PB. He would have to correct me if I'm wrong. Campton, I saw some good pics of it and look good. Akubra I would get because it gets a good review from the "man himself." I would like to get my hands on all of these hats but I have found my fortune and glory already.

Bending oak I will try to get ahold of him probably next week. I am not concerned with the wait time. I am considering trying an akubra also. I believe it is the regular federation. If they make it in some kind of gray and if I think I could shape it.

I belive akubra's come open crown , so you should have fun shapping it. Post pics when you do.

And, if you have problems with your PB (like bleeding or tapering), you may also want to take a look towards the Camptown Hats. Their quality & service ar great and you won't ever have to worry about the color bleeding. The Fieldmaster is a high quality hat at a reasonable price and the wait is minimal. I've just ordered their grey Metropolitan model and can't wait to get it.
Welcome to COW! :D

Cheers!

Interesting. My PBBM Brown "Daily wear" has been wet a number of times and I've never seen it bleed. Maybe it doesn't have the time to? Bad joke, I know.

Seriously, I was wearing the PBBM on the Universal Jurassic Park water ride  and it literally got drenched in a matter of seconds after the plunge down in the ride. It dried, and was totally fine.

Ironically, Jesse the Body, or Jesse the Governor...... graduated from the same High School I went to here in Mpls... Of course that was back before I was going there. Back around 1985 or so, he showed up at one of our Pep Rallys at school... but at that point he hadn't done Predator yet and was "just" a local wrestler to us. I did get to meet him a couple years back when he was Governor. Man, that guy is BIG!

The regular Fed is available in "Carbon Gray". I have one. It's a really nice gray. It's a darker gray than the gray AB, and has less brown undertones than the AB gray. For a more "Indy" gray, I'd say Camptown is a good bet, but not as fast as Akubra if it's not in stock and ready.

If it can take all that then I definitely shouldn't have to worry about mine. Although I will be giving it the first real use starting tommorrow. Will be taking it to tennessee for the week so should at least be plenty of sweating and breaking in.
I do like that gray fed. I know they come open crown but did it come with the ribbon on it? I will check out the camptown also. But if I do get another one it would be the least expensive of the two and in gray, since I do want to get an AB in the near future.

My Grandfather always said, "It's the wanting, not the having." Oh, well.
