Is there anybody in the LA area that would be available to help a newbie to whip cracking?

second question to the experts is it possible to crack the whip from the seated position? I need to hang on with at least one hand to stand, and spend most of the time in a powerchair but would like to learn whip cracking

I concur!! Great book! If you can't find help (and heck, even if you DO!) I highly recommend that book.

It is indeed possible to crack whips from a seated position. I met a whip cracker who practiced in a dance studio with low ceilings, so he would sit on a chair to lower his body, which helped to avoid hitting the ceiling with the whips. Another friend of mine actually participated in a whip cracking competition while confined (temporarily) to a wheelchair.

Also, since you'll have to use a lot of arm from a seated position, I'd recommend using a 6 ft whip or shorter. I know Indy fans seem to prefer 8 to 10 ft whips, but I think you'd learn faster if you start with a 6 footer and work up to cracking longer whips.

I know a few whip crackers around LA, I’m not sure if they are members here or not. I thought we had a few out in that area though.

Not only is it possible to crack whips from a seated position its highly probable, I know several that work seated on horseback, or from a coach seat. I agree that you’ll probably want to work with a shorter whip and possibly one with a longer handle as well to give you a lil more distance and leverage.

Thats a good book, there are some videos avalible that will help you out too.
