I know that the side strap set-up on my Expedition is very Raiders screen accurate.

i believe the expo's to be using either d-rings or rectangular sliders as the hardware on the side straps (which were probably correct for the stunt jacket unless you're running with the theory that the tod jacket was a stunt jacket. todd uses a center bar buckle which i believe to be the correct screen accurate configuration on these doo-dads....i'm still waiting on proof that they were not center bar buckles....till then thats what i want on my jackets

Or is it neither of the above?

If it's the first one, then after you get it to your desired tightness, simply thread it back the opening it came into... This would make it look like it would slip out with a tug, but it should be quite secure... At least that's how I use mine.

the second one is actually a 2pc moveable center-bar buckle. its funny that the picture displays the leather being attached to one of the side bars instead of the moveable center bar (which would be more sa imo). i haven't seen that configuration before. are these stock on any jacket offering currently?

i actually have some of these but have yet to install them.

Sorry, my bad. I've only ever handled those double D-Rings and those double Rectangule-Rings before, so I've always wondered what a slider looked like.

Which does in a way answer your question... I went looking around the archives to see what they might look like, and found that picture from:

8 times out of ten when you surf the net for a "slider" you come up with what looks like a single, stamp forged piece that looks like a squished figure 8 or you got a black 3 bar plastic webbing fastener.

regardless, both are unsuitable for an SA side strap. i did manage to find mini pronged buckles which i used in my flightjacket project. i had one set left which then went to peter for my latest and greatest raiders jacket (and hopefully my last raiders wested).

I read on a previous thread that the newly introduced (at the time) double rectangular loops were supposedly screen-accurate! Go figure, eh?

Personally though, what kind of side straps are used aren't all that important, since we hardly even get to see them clearly in any of the movies to begin with. Although having a completely prop-accurate slider or sidefastener would be awesome, it just doesn't bother me all that much since finding a prop accurate one seems to be as hard as finding the lost ark anyway!

The real question I'd like to know is once we get one, how do we actually USE it?

you don't care about the straps......i do.....variety is the spice of life my friend. there is no rulebook of how to collect gear....just as long as you enjoy it and you get the things that you like....thats the only thing that matters in this hobby

G, I wasn't saying that what kind of sidestraps one uses is not important, but rather that seeing how little we see of the sidestraps in the trilogy, finding a screen-accurate set would be a crusade worthy of Indy himself! Perhaps Indy G?

I mean, just look at the shirt! Despite it being featured so prominently, decades later, we still argue about the requirements for a prop-accurate shirt!

Naturally, sidestraps are just as important as any other piece of the gear, and as you said, variety IS the spice of life! Just like how having a manufacterer-accurate (or as accurate as we can get) jacket is important to us, though others may be settle for a well inhabited A2.

i got my hands on a set of sliders, and they were easy to open. The D-rings where a little tougher to get off, i had to use wite-cutters for them to just open them. Then I put the sliders on and closed them with my fingers.

Don't get me wrong, they WERE hard to open/close with hands, but it was very possible.
