Finally, OFFICIAL Indy IV Jacket Pics!! (Not Vendor Related)

(Mods, I realize that this is a repost, but as the prior thread was removed due to certain unresolved problems, so I thought that I might as well go ahead and repost this so we could discuss this (inevitably as it may be) WITHOUT going into Vendor detail! ;))

From the set of Indy IV, we finally have the official look at that trademark jacket, and I got to say that they really resemble those worn-look Westeds!

Now, I know this is really premature, but obviously someone's gonna break down the measurements eventually...

So in the spirit of those Presidential Election news reports that announce the winner hours before the votes are counted, I'll go ahead and be the first on Indygear to actually estimate the most crucial measurement;

The Pockets

Yellow: 18cm
Green: 8.75cm
Blue: 5.75cm
Width: 17cm

*Please note that those measurements are only my guesstimations!

No worries. Just making an observation.

I mean, LC was the only film that had the press studs.

Jaredraptor, my comment was not directed at yours. Observe and speculate to your heart's contnet. The last thread went completely south, so I'm just giving fair warning that in order for this thread to remain open, it needs to stay on topic. As soon as vendors are talked about, then that's when action will have to be taken.

Alrighty, back to the topic then....

Any guesses on overall length? I'm thinkin' it's probably somewhere between the length in Raiders and the length in LC, based on the hybridization of the hat.

That collar is pretty huge, and the collar stand reminds me of a certain pic from the indygear main page. :?:

Wow! A sneak preview... The photo is from an odd angle so perspective appears to be all over the place. Hard to tell size of collar, pockets. It does indeed look LC ish. It's a nice jacket and it's very strange to see it just hanging there like anyone else's. Thanks.

I´ve noticed that the zipper does not extend to the bottom of the jacket. That means that there will be leather facings on the inside. At least at the lower edge of the jacket.

Kinda small zipper.
Seem to be much smaller than the preivous ones.
Nice jacket tough, cant wait until i see Harrison wearing it.

I just noticed the snap at the top AND bottom of the jacket  kinda ugly imo...

I'm not a fan of the bottom snap either.

I do like the distressing of the jacket, looks pretty good to me.

My 'close enuff' had the bottom snap, and I really liked it, cuz when I didn't want to zip it up, but also didn't want the ends flappin in the breeze, I could just snap the bottom closed.

You know, the 'hero' jacket for this new film might become one of the only jackets in the series that one of the fans (or even a CoWer) might get their hands on and find the exact, indisputable measurements for! ;)

To me, that collar stand looks like it's made of cloth, and the zipper ends at the bottom of the pockets. The distressing on this one seems more in line with Raiders than Crusade IMO, which is odd, considering how dramatic the distressing was in LC, are we then to take it that this jacket is the same as in LC?

I highly doubt that... just like the hats. We're never led to believe Indy wears the same hat through all the films. Especially with the amount of distressing the LC jacket hat - I'm sure that thing fell apart later on (maybe a couple years). In any case, that was what.... 1939? We're in 1957 now? I'm sure he's gotten a different jacket, hat, etc. as things have worn out and all that. He's been on plenty of adventures between LC and IV, and stuff has changed. You know?

I'm not crazy about the snaps either... but... whatever.

Well, the snaps were carried over from the LC jacket, and I think having those press-studs really do help the jacket in terms of praticality. I have both a Wested Raiders and LC, and if I were to get another, I'd certainly ask for press studs.

Like Gater said, it does help when you want to keep it from flapping without having to bother with the zip.

To be fair, this is movie logic that we're talking about here... Even though the actual props are different between each scene (or even sometimes in the same scene!), those different props are to be regarded as the same one (i.e: Hero idol vs Stunt idol).

Even though to us gearheads the difference of the gear between all the movies, to the casual viewer it would look the same. Which is why I always figured that Indy's gear, much like Indy himself, was supposed to be virtually indestructible. Or at least his trademark items anyway, like the hat, the jacket, and the whip. ;)

Yeah, and I'm thinking that's the upside. It's gotta be practicality over cosmetics... (No Jerry - not like that... you can take the shoes off...) And either way snaps will be screen accurate. I love when people see this new gear and go "But that's not right!" because it is now! lol

Anyway - yeah, I can see how useful those would be. Maybe once we know for sure who makes them and all that, and we start buying them, I'll get one. Maybe...

Shane

I have to agree. If my worn-look Wested came with the snap closures for the stormflap, I would call it an Indy IV jacket moreso than an RotLA.

those pics look like the stills on ET. They also showed a stack of hats and a few whips from the set. HF looked good in his Indy gear again. Do the studs really make a big difference in keeping the jacket in order. I don't have them on my jacket, so I was just curious.

If my jackets don't have them, Davy, I usually have them installed.

If you've ever been in a really high wind with jacket zipped up and your storm flap started beating the daylights out of your chest and chin, you'd KNOW why they're on the jacket.

Can you live without the studs? ABSOLUTLY! I just like the extra security of the flap being held in place and not being able to 'hinge' when the jacket is zipped up.

Esapecially if you use the jacket for motorcyle riding... without the studs, its ridiculous...
and don't even get me going on the collar when its brand new (riding on a bike that is...)

That could be the reason they were added to the LC jacket.

I use my Wested Raiders for scooter riding, it has no press studs, and works just fine... then again, the scooter won't go very fast. :)

So I guess if you think of Indy as a real character, and his jacket in evolutionary terms, then I suppose...

ToD, He had a brand new, long jacket.

-After getting dunked into the water one too many times, he ended up with a shorter RotLA jacket due to the shrinkage.

RotLA, he got it scuffed up pretty badly, dragged around and under a truck, running through the deserts... He also probably found his jacket whipping around during all those horseback rides he took, and found it annoying especially when you have a boulder coming after you!

-As a result, his jacket got pretty badly distressed, which led to the dramatically distressed look of LC. Also, he decided to latch on a press stud to fix that annoying problem.

In between LC and Indy IV, he must have taken things a bit slower (maybe not immediately, but eventually). He decided to polish up his gear, maybe picking up a couple new thicker shirts and pants, and at the same time, heavily pecarding, and just generally babying his jacket.

And while you can darken a jacket with pecards, you can never fully make it look like new, which leads us to the jacket in Indy IV. Darkened a bit from his 'Last Crusade', but none the worse for wear! ;)

He also had someone replace the left sleeve, to get rid of that pesky bullet hole

Must say the Indy IV jacket looks good enough to eat!

thank you Bink, I thought they were. I do Like the snap down collar on my A-2. After a few good slaps in the face from your collar in a good wind I can understand why you would need studs on your wind flap. It might be something to get on my next jacket. Any idea on what the leather is on this Indy jacket (or is this going to far)?

It looks like a thin cowhide or a thick lamb to me. (Now doesn't that sound like a typical LC discussion, the lining looks darker too).

Actually good old fashioned pre d cow would pull this look of pretty well, perhaps with a touch of pecard.

It is great to see a photo of the jacket finally. I am not a big fan of the snap but it is such a small thing I don't think many will notice it. I laughed at the x photo KT posted. Very funny. Mean, but hilarious.

I wonder how much the jacket will feature in the movie - so far all the shots of Harrison and video has him just in the shirt. I wonder if it will be like TOD where the jacket doesn't make much as much of an appearance or if all the shots we are seeing now are just from one or two scenes like the Streets of Cairo segements in Raiders. I am quite a fan of the non jacket-ed Indy look as well and I do quite like the look of the new shirt as well.

This is a good point although I prefer the jacketed look. In TOD i had heard he did not like the jacket (it was made in France?) - too heavy or something so he took it off.

Ok, to be honest, this jacket looks TERRIBLE. I wouldn't use "distressing" expression at all, it would be an insult for a distressing job. In my personal opinion, all "Predistressed" direction is a joke (including last Wested's efforts in this matter). Some people really want to believe, predistressed looks natural. It does not.
Mind the Fedora's post, regarding Deborah's work on the ROTLA fedora.
viewtopic.php?t=22714&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
It's the same thing. Sad and funny at the same time...

Anyway, regarding IJ IV generally - any fedora and any jacket on the Harrison Ford will make my day :) Even if a new costume-crew is working hard to #### it up ;)

Cheers,

That makes me wonder... Though this is very unlikely, could you imagine if they did Indy IV like they did RoLA? That is to say that Indy's gear was dispensable.

Compared to ToD and LC, Indy in RoLA didn't really seem to care about his gear all that much (as opposed to the latter two, where by that time, the crew knew that it was his Superman outfit). I mean, imagine if they shot RoLA after ToD... They would probably have Ford wearing the fedora in Sallah's house, and patio. And more likely than not, they'd also have him somehow losing the Nazi uniform at the end for Indy gear before the grand finale.

So once again, I really do wonder what would happen if Indy IV was treated the same way... And instead of making his 'gear' so prominent, what if they only had him in his signature costume in only a couple of scenes? (and yes, even without the jacket, or without the hat, it still counts as his 'costume')

Oh, and for the sake of those of us who prefer to have our presents on Xmas day itself, please no scene spoilers! ;)

My leather jacket hasn't been affected by hanging it on a coat hanger.

But back to the new jacket: studs on the bottom? Eh............I'm not a big fan of that.

We don't have any good reference yet, so this is pure speculation, but what are people's thoughts about the sliders? I'm guessing rectangular black sliders.

What do you think?

Seeing as they are following the LC mould so strongly, logic would point to D-rings IMO.

You could be right, KT. Good point.

Part of me would like them to use a different style of slider, to further distinguish this from the Indy III jacket.

I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of Harrison wearing it, as we'll be able to get a good look at the length and fit of the jacket.

Of course if the leather is thin they may change them to rec sliders just like so many of us have :).

Or Buckles....

Or Triglides...

How about velcro? Supplied by the aliens... :)

d-rings are plentiful and easily obtainable....center bar buckles, not so much.

my guess is if they patterned this jacket against the lc jacket (as the press studs are there), i'm assuming the d-rings will rear their ugly heads :(

Has anyone found any better pictures of the jacket? I'm afraid to look at any Indy IV material... I even tried my best to avoid seeing pictures of Harrison Ford back in the hat, which you can guess didn't work out so well...

This jacket was presented in the same reel as the stack of hats, so there's no guarantee that this is the Hero jacket. Mind you, I am not privy to any vendor information, so this could very well be the same exact style he will be wearing. I have a screen capture of Ford in his jacket, but it doesn't show much. If anyone would like to see it, PM me and maybe someone can host it to show the rest of the crowd.

I'm guessing that with how picky Indy IV seems to be about clothes, they'll probably have every jacket, hero or not, be uniformly identical (maybe except for distressing), as opposed to how it was like on the earlier movies, when they had a tighter budget... (fake bookshelf in LC's library, anyone?)

But don't take me word for it, since this is all idle speculation on my part.

And now, I am probably the first person (to my knowledge) to have created a Indy IV jacket replica from Wested... After a few weeks spent drooling in front of the Indy IV production videos, I believe I finally have found a perfect match to what I see on screen. Of course, this is all subjective, and please do remember that this picture is just the first giddy picture I've taken after ripping open the package, so it may not be the most flattering... More pics to come!
