Guys n Gals,

I need some help.

My Wested Pants shrunk in the wash (Warning do not wash them in a washing machine) and so I'm in the market for some new ones.

Although I like the Westeds, I just don't think the color is right for me.

I've lost count of all the Vendors out there and who actually makes them these days.

Can you please help me out with recommendations? (Who, What, Where, Why etc)

I'd add a poll but I just dont know who does them now.

The best are from NH but Those pants are 100% wool !!! you cant wash them in washing machine !!! dry clean only

I would suggest the Magnoli pants. You can get them in a more gray color (Raiders) in a cashmere blend, or upgrade to wool and get a slight red tint (ToD / LC). Either way is much cheaper than a NH, AND it's custom fit.

And... they are now available in 100% cotton in an accurate color and weave which means they are machine washable and easy care!

I haven't added updated photos to my site yet (been way too busy), but here is an undoctored image of a recent pair I made for someone using this new cotton:



You'll notice that these pair have the Raiders dropped belt loops. Here is a shot showing the pocket flap where you can see a bit of the weave of the new cotton:

Would it be possible to make them alittle more scalloped, like say this?

Magnoli, are you saying these custom tailored pants are are now more accurate in color than your previous Cashmere blend, are custom tailored, are machine washable, are custom tailored, and even have some details changed to make them as structurally accurate as possible? Wow!

You know... it may be time for a new pair of pants!

I've tried to get a bit more scalloping from my tailor, but they seem fairly conservative with their curves. I'm sure I can get it more scalloped with more prodding. When and if you place an order, simply e-mail me the above photo and I'll have it copied as closely as possible.

Is this color and material already listed on the site, but just without updated photos? I see there's already the 100% cavalry twill cotton, and the 100% pure cotton. Is this material different? What color is it? Does it raise the price very much?

@KT - what is that photo? Is that how the pockets on the Raiders pants were? Wow! That's some serious scallop.

The material is a different cotton I found that isn't specifically listed on the site. The color is officially called "camel", though "camel" varies greatly from one material to the next from what I've seen. I've basically been offering this to people via e-mail after they have placed their order. The price is the same as what is listed on my site.

Can I ask when measuring the outside leg, do you measure from the top of the belt down to the floor?

And how do I factor in the 5 inches of turn ups needed to clear my Aldens?

My Magnoli pants work fine with my Aldens - I think when I measured I just used a pair of pants that had a nice length and copied that one.

Thanks Erri, Trouble is I can't really afford a dry clean bill all the time. So maybe I will buy Magnoli's as knock about pair and a BEST pair from Noel.

Yes, following the instructions from my measurement form (as Shane posted above) usually works just fine. As for swatches, I can send up to 20 different swatches for $15 sent anyhwere in the world via courier.

For a suit yes, but for a single pair of pants or shirt, no... as there isn't as much profit in those garments.

Alternatively, I can send you few swatches sent by standard airmail; processing and shipping takes longer, but it's cheaper... PM me for details.

I have 2 pairs of NH pants and have machine washed both. I just did it on a wool wash and they came out fine - no shrinkage. The dry cleaning instruction I think is just there to cover himself - really the pants are fine to go through the wash as long as you do it properly.

yeah...do it properly! I had washed mine a few times, with no problem, but the washer at my new apartment shrunk them!! luckily, I have about 6 inches of hem, to allow for the speed lacers on the Aldens, and just need to turn them down at some point..but use caution and care when machine washing them, k?

Thanks, still doesn't tell me though where my leg finishes. At the ankle? All the way to the floor? An inch above the floor?

Thanks Ken, I'm always worried abotu shrinkage considering what i did with my westeds lol.

I think you just end your leg measurement wherever you feel comfortable with it.

If it concerns you that much, you really should go talk to a tailor about this, since he or she would be the only person truly qualified to give you a definitive answer.

Yes, it's really a matter of preference. If you want, we can also give it a military hem (longer at back than in the front).

I agree. If washed properly (cold water, gentle cycle, Woolite), there should be no problems. I hand was mine in a large tote with cold water and Woolite; after a few minutes soaking, I move them to another tote with cold water to rinse. After that, line drip dry. Works great!
