Todd's cowhide / Wested's lambtouch

Post by whiskyman »

Is there anyone here who has experienced both? I'd really like to know whether these are comparable hides.
I received a cowhide from Todd and I really love it - wonderful leather - but it's too big for me. A replacement jacket will take nearly 10 weeks so I'm wondering about taking a refund (or selling here if anyone is size 42) and ordering a Wested. I thought perhaps the lambtouch might be a close comparison to Todd's cowhide.

If Todd's leather is that good why not stay with the only (virtually) screen accurate jacket you can get?

Maybe they can meet on a bridge somewhere and exchange jackets.

Tap into that cold war zeitgeist.

I bumped into a Lambs Touch from Wested's original version of that hide, and it does not remind me of Todd's Cowhide at all. I find Wested's Lambskin is closer in feel to Todd's Cow. Weird, but true.

I just have received the Todd jacket from whiskyman.
The jacket is great, fits me like a glove. It seems to have all the SA specs.
The cowhide is very smooth and soft. The jacket is even a tad lightly then my Wested Lambtouch. When I compare Todd's Cowhide with Wested's lambtouch. I just can say they are totally different hides. The lambtouch is much thinner, darker and is very shiny when it's new. It's also much more textured. I'm gonna put in some pictures very soon. Thank you again whiskyman for this bargain :)

Much regards

Excellent. Glad it arrived so quickly and that you're happy with it. I think I read that you also have a horsehide from Wested. That would also be an interesting comparison for me.

Here some bad snapshots. It's a bit bulky and the sleeves are a bit too long but I'll give it a some water treatment tomorrow and then let's see :)

I really love the colour! It's a very rich brown.

Wow...that's a beautiful jacket! Have you noticed that it's larger or smaller than a regular 42R, or is it a standard fit 42R.

I have a Todd's Lamb on order in a 42R, but after seeing pics of your jacket, maybe I should have gotten the cowhide.

Compared to a Wested I would say it's a bit larger. But I don't think that is a bad point. Because when you give it some water treatment the jacket will shrink a bit and wrinkle and then you should get a much better fit.
The jacket has the same length as my 42 Long Wested Raiders lambtouch.
I'll will make better pictures after the water treatment :)

I usually wear a 46R jacket. My Todd is a 44R and it's actually slightly bigger (longer in sleeve and body) than my 46R Wested.

That you love it, is all that matters. You show considerably more fortitude, when distressing that jacket, than would I. As an accordion player, I am torn between liking the "pleated" look of the sleeves, or thinking it is a bit too "much."

You can also stretch the sleeves a bit and the wrinkles will be less visible.
