Reblocking hat with dimensional brim

I'm taking my old Fed Dlx to a local hat shop to have it reblocked. Has anyone had problems with a hat shop reblocking a hat so the dimensional brim is gone or sits wrong - front and back of dimensional brim are now on the sides? I've gone to local hat shops before (Seattle area) and none of them can grasp the idea of a dimension brim, so to turn my Fed over to any of them is a bit disconcerting.

I have never had a problem, Jess, as long as they block the hat stright in the block. If it's at any kind of an angle, it will cock the brim, and they'll see that right off.
I don't think you need to worry, if it's a hat shop with any experience.

I would make sure they knew it was a dimensional brim!! Dimensional brims are uncommon outside of the Indy community. They might want to correct it for you, and get rid of the dimensional cut, thinking something was wrong with your hat!!!

True, but before I started sending them to you for reblock, Steve, I sent them to Virginia Beach, VA and to Brooklyn, NY for reblock, and never said a thing regarding the dimensional brims. They came back with no problems, and both shops were old established firms.
I'm sure this would be true with a newer shop, though. The old shops and hat makers DO know the dimensional brim, and can proceed with no problems.
Like I said, though, this is totally based on my personal experience in years past.

And just so I understand...even if you wear your hat turned, you still want to reblock it STRAIGHT with the dimensional brim, and just return it on your head AFTER the reblocking.
Right?
(Otherwise, it just negates the point of turning it. And does woopy things to the brim DURING the blocking, instead of when it gets turned on your head.)

Thanks for the info. Byrnie Utz Hat shop just a few blocks from the office, I'm going to stop by today or tomorrow and ask them about dimensional brims. If they give me that deer caught in the headlights look
, I'll know to move on.
Thanks for the reminder Jerry. I'm not a big fan of the turned hat so there's no worries there.
*edit* BTW, I would send it to you Fedora, but I know you're swamped.

I wouldn't know about that Jerry. I'm not a practioneer of the turned hat myself, so it's a non-issue for me.

Our heads are already twisted enough without throwing a turned hat on top of it.

Jess, just make sure they reblock the dimensional brim correctly or you could end up with a short front and longer sides!

(Gosh, I hope Fedora doesn't pass this thread up when he sees all you scoundrels in here...oh, right, me too. Carry on!)

Gee thanks Bink. What would we do without you. Besides not worrying about our wallets.

Perhaps it's the reverse dimension brim that's the secret to the amazing acrobatics of "The Flying Indy's".

Good news. Byrnie Utz knows all about dimension brims. They'll do a re-block in about 10 minutes (while you wait) and best of all, it's FREE! They also have a great selection of straw hats, one if which I'll buy on a day that I'm not riding the motorcyle.

Wow, that IS fast. Sounds like he's reblocking w/ the band IN, then?

It's reblocking while you're still wearing your hat. It takes 30 seconds for you to put on your hat, another 30 seconds for them to hit you over the head with a special "reblocking shovel" and 9 minutes for the paramedics to arrive.

Probably, but I forgot to ask which band will be in the hat.

If I could get him to reblock the hat here at work, maybe I could collect L&I.
