Battle Tested PBBM

Hey All!

I was putting my hats away last night. When I got to my Federation I was admiring its many battle scars. Then, I came upon my PBBM. I know that this is a dress hat--at least that is when I wear it. But, I was wondering if anyone had any field experience with this hat. Does it hold up?

Looking forward to Indy 4 like lunch with an old girl friend (mix of fear and anticipation),

I wouldn't trust it as a 'field hat' myself, that is unless you have another one for backup as a dress hat. It's a fine Borsalino rabbit, and apt to taper if caught in a rain.

I'd recommend you continue to use it like you are...a dress hat, or going to town hat.

I wore mine to the first QM summit, and it performed perfectly as an everyday hat in good weather.

A regular Custom Indy from Peters Bros. is completely different on the other hand, it can take some of the most severe punishment and pop right back into place. Just take a look at my thread

Thanks. I have a PB Custum that I used to wear all the time. The ribbon fell off about two years ago and I never got around to getting it fixed. Anyway, I think I may be one of those people who are really attached to the Federation.

Thanks for the feed back. I will try to treat my PBBM with great care.

You don't have to baby it.....but just be aware of it's weak points, and it will serve you well.

And as a friend reminded me via PM (and I posted above in my first reply) make absolutely sure you do NOT get it caught in the rain. Period.

On a semi-related note, does anyone know if beaver ABs are heavyduty, or more dressy hats? Just curious. ;)

Might want to start a new string on that topic, Castor, since this is a Peter's bros discussion.

There are dozens of posts regarding that topic, though, that discuss that very thing.

Michaelson, I am going to have to disagree with you on this. The very day I received my PBBM five years ago, I put it on my head to go out to get the mail, and got caught in a frog strangler(HEAVY RAIN for those beginning to form the question). No taper, no shrinkage, no nothing. While I will have to admit I have also let it slide to the back of the collection, it is one of the best hats I have in my collection. Joe Jr. sure made this one a good one.

Well, there you go!

Then again, Joe Sr. suggested you DON'T go through what YOU experienced with a PBBM if you can avoid it, so I'm quoting the master here and have had no interest in going against his advice.
