Question on the Bag strap

Would a Lee-Enfield leather rifle sling work as a passable strap for Indy's bag? My grandfather knows a place where I could get one relatively cheap, and I just wanted to know how screen accurate it is.

It would be pretty darn good, really. I use an old rifle strap I got from Tapco (I think they're long out, though). It's perfect and works great. My feeling is Indy's strap essentially IS a rifle strap. As far as screen accuracy, folks will nitpick it's not 100%, but it IS period accurate and looks just the same, in my book. If there's another good source for Enfield straps, can you share if they have more than one?

Well, it's a gun store in Colorado Springs. So, I'm not sure how available the Enfield slings are. For all I know, he may have only seen one. But if they have more than one, I'm definitely going to buy a few.

I suppose a Springfield sling would work too.

Gotcha. I think the Enfield strap would be a fine choice. I wish I would've gotten a couple more of the Tapco straps. They were naturally aged to perfection.

Alright then. Thank you for the input, by the way.

Check the Cairo Bazaar or contact Kevin at Endicotts for a MKVII, he might still have some left.

If it looks at all like this one (the tapco we've been referring to), viewtopic.php?t=9981&highlight=possibly+bag+strap
...then YES, it would make a great strap. AND when you get it, please share a pic!

Tapco is out of the HK/CETME straps, it looks like...so a new source on old used (heck, even new unused replica) rifle straps of the right configuration would be GREAT. I bought about a dozen of those tapco's, but I see I only have my own one left...did I really give away 11?

So please do share, if you find a good source, and thanks in advance!

Alrighty. Will do (on the presumption that I do find a good source, that is).

The Tapco rifle sling is what I use.

I'm quite surprised, the Tapco straps must come in a variety of lengths. As you know I'm tiny and the one I have is too short even for me, the buckle sits way too low.

Well then, if I don't find an Enfield sling, I'll pro'ly buy one of these Tapco straps.

Last I knew, Tapco didn't have any more of the straps, unless they've managed to scare more up recently.

We did note in that thread above a bit of variation...but only in a range of about 6". So we could rarely find one out to 65" or more like folks wanted as per 'specs'.

So I'm really curious what kind of lengths of the Enfield rifle strap can be found...or was there a standard length for these?

I just checked a week or two ago when someone brought it up and they were out then...let me peek again...

...nope, I still get bupkus.

As far as I know. the Enfield sling is a "one size fits all" thing (as in ajustable for people 5'0 to 6'5). OF course, I'm basing that on the standard military-issue Springfield slings from the first world war.. Britsh rifle slings may be different.

I've got an HK sling from ebay on the way. I'm usually all talk and no show when it comes to pics, but I hope to put some up. I'm converting an American WWII bag to use the sling strap and have an almost-but not quite Indy bag.

Actually, it's not even almost, but it will be one-of-a-kind in these parts--sort of my own make of adventure gear.
