Will a Hat Taper More if Stored than Worn?

Post by Texas Raider »

I regularly wear my Akubra Federation,it's my 'go-to' hat. But yesterday,I went to grab another lid,(AB beaver) and noticed that it's gained a bit of a taper! (and shrunk a wee bit). I then checked my Keppler,,same,,a bit of taper! These two hats are practically unworn! So-does not wearing a hat add to the taper factor? My Akubra has practically none! And it's a few years old with many an adventure!

I've found that any hats I've owned that haven't been 'rotated' in wear, and haven't had that 'felt killing' application done to them DO tend to taper a bit due to heat experienced in storage over time. That's why I try and get mine out on occation and rotate them in wear.

I also find that if I don't take myself out and rotate from time to time that I tend to taper a bit, too.

So if you stored your hats in the fridge upside down there would be no taper? 8)

Sorry, you said fridge not freezer.

Just put a box of baking soda in there with it to keep your hat fresh.

Just be careful to keep it away from the ice dispenser. You might get fuzzy ice otherwise.

Should you burp your AB before putting it in the fridge? (Or just after it's bottle?)

Hat burp is like ****** ******, an unmentionable subject in a family forum! It means your band is too tight. Isn't that why they put those little holes in the crown, so that when you lift your lids to the ladies on a hot summer day, you don't get that embarrasing "GLUARPHG" when the thing pulls away from your dripping forehead?
