Does anyone know what pistol The Rocketeer used? From what I can tell it looks like some sort of Mauser.

Mauser C96 Broomhandle
Favored by William Churchill in his cavalry days. Lots of variants over the years in caliber and feeding device.

The links at the bottom can give you more info.
The holsters came in two types, typical leather and a wooden boxy type designed to be used as a shoulder stock by clipping onto the butt of the pistol.

You can do a search on auctionarms.com and gunbroker.com for C96 Mauser and get an idea of what the holsters and pistols are going for.
There's almost always a few up for bid. Also original stocks/holsters, both the wood shoulder stock type and the leather belt holster.
So you could start the "look" before you track down the actual firearm.

Thought of one more thing.
For those folks not familiar with online gun buying, it is not "mail order" guns (those went away in the '60s) or some kind of "loophole".
The guns are won and paid for online, like any other auction, but they can only be shipped to a licensed firearms dealer. That dealer has to send a copy of his license on your behalf to the shipping FFL prior to shipping. Most dealers charge a handling fee as the firearm has to be logged into and out of their "bound book" and they take responsibility that all laws are followed from that point.
Once the firearms arrive at the local dealer the receiver has to undergo the same background checks, waiting periods if any, and paperwork as any other purchase from that dealer's own stock.

Sorry for the multiple posts.
Things kept coming to me after I hit submit.
Good luck finding what you're looking for. The actual pistols look like they are running a little steep. Maybe a genuine holster and an Airsoft would fit the short-term bill.

Thanks again carebear. I found a resin replica and holster that will work I think:

Just replying so I could fix the image tags and see the pictures.
That looks great. You can always distress the holster if you end up thinking it needs it. As for "originality", remember holsters have been handmade to order since firearms came along, so there's no reason any person, especially someone non-military, would have to use the "issue" version.
Make sure you post pictures of the final product.

That gun looks a lot like Han Solo's blaster.

as far as holsters go, you want a wooden one, that doubles as a stock for the gun, that what he has...i think

the Rocketeer in the movie never had a holster, he took the mauser from a downed Nazi.

That's pretty. I like the contrast between the polished flats and the rougher recesses.
Reminds me of a "how-to" project gun from a (Gun's Digest / American Rifleman, ?) actually.
