Does Lambskin Stiffen Over Time?

Post by Castor Dioscuri »

Hi all,

After recently getting my new Wested predistressed Raiders lamb, I've pretty much ignored my Wested LC auth. lamb jacket.

After having left the auth lamb alone for at least a month (maybe a little less), I decided to give it a spin for the night.

Now, bear in mind that I babied this jacket, not wanting to get a single scratch on it, and pecarding it (with Lotion) at least four times since I recieved it in March.

When I pulled it out of the closet this evening, the first thing I noticed was that it seem very blocky, almost like it didn't want to drape (imagine a thin sheet of plastic covering). When I moved it around, certain parts made popping/scrunching sounds (it never made those sounds before)... but no physical damage was visible.

Another thing was that it didn't seem very soft... almost comparable to my horsehide. I don't know if this is just because I have gotten used to how soft the newer predistressed lamb is. In any event, to me it feels comparable to my horsehide Wested... that is to say it isn't as buttery soft as I once thought, and feels... blocky.

Finally, whatever drape it had acquired totally was gone, and now it looked like it draped to the shape of the hanger, with the waist flaring out like crazy when worn.

After I got back home, I tore it off and quickly smeared a fresh coat of lotion on the jacket, hoping that it would help.

Help! Is this normal? Will it ever go back to being super soft again? Anyone experience something like this? Etc...

Never had this problem Castor. When you put the Jacket on the hanger it`s normal that the wrinkles are gone after sometimes. My father's auth. lamb lc jacket is now even softer as it was when he got it. He wears it sometimes, so not very often. Maybe your jacket has been stiffed up because of some leather lotion treatment and because you haven't worn it a longer time? Or maybe the jacket is just a bit offended because living on a hanger isn't much fun

Much regards

I’d get a good terry cloth towel and apply some Lexol. I have a 6 year old ToD lamb Wested that is as soft as new. Lexol works great on lamb.
