New (to me) old Wested jacket.

I just recieved the jacket TRH sold on ebay. It's fascinating... to me at least.

He didn't really say a lot about it on the auction but as it was my size and looked slightly beat up I thought I'd buy it as a beater.

What I didn't count on was a jacket with a bit of history. First thing it's a pretty early jacket it has a cotton collar stand, it has huge pockets, the pleats are tiny (1 inch if that), and the strap configuration is weird, the front strap ends almost inside the handwarmer and the back strap is sewn INSIDE the back panel instead of outside. It's a dark brown type colour and is VERY soft even softer than my current 2 year old Auth Brown. The stormflap is slightly wider than normal it's about 1 3/4 inches. It seems to have a high yoke too.

Apart from the pockets I like it a lot. The sleeves are not tapered but not too blowsey AND the pleats lay open and flat and look great, they look just like Indy's to me.

The deeper pleats current Wested's have stay closed but look a less like the ones in most of the film.

In the first stage of me making it a beater I took a risk and washed it in the washing machine, it's come out undamaged but has ended up with a bit of grey bloom from the washing which I will try to wipe down with some spirit. It's also now been letapped.

I think this is going to make a cool "trooping" jacket.

Henry bought it from another member... I'm trying to find out who. :) It is at least 5 years old if you were a previous owner please pipe up! It is a 38.

I miss those "Made in Great Britain" labels. My first two Westeds had 'em, my current one says: "Made in England." Great Britain just sounds better.

I just remembered who I got it from. It was LeatherneckJones.

Cheers Henrik!

LNJ I had no idea, did you get it new or was it older than that?

And appologies to both of you if it's painful to see it getting roughly treated!

Nice score! With the exception of the big pockets, it's very similar to my jackets that I got in '98. I posted pics of my main, beat-up one about a year ago.

I like the X stitching on the tabs. Nice texture out of the washing machine too...

I got a chance to do a few pics, the dark brown does photograph nicely. I was in a bit of a hurry and ended up with blown highlights! I'll try again some other time. And I got my gunbelt the wrong way round DOH!

That jacket looks good on you, Kt!

kt, that jacket looks great. it does not look like the cotton collar stand has lost its support over the years which was my fear of having that feature.

...but where's the hat?

Kt,

I think it looks great. The drape looks good, the wrinkles in the sleeves look very screen accurate, and the jackets looks like it fits to a T. Considering that you bought it used, it looks like it was made for you. I never get that lucky with a fit if I buy something used. That one's a winner.

Thank you for your kind comments guys. I think it looks pretty fab too.

What amazes me is that fit makes a HUGE amount of difference to how a jacket looks. THIS is the same jacket.

The sleeves seem a bit too long... Perhaps you could have them shortened an inch or inch and a half, and have the excess leather used to reinforce the cloth colar stand (at least on the stormflap where it shows!)

Fantastic look and fit! It fits your torso and drapes very much as Indy's did in Raiders.
