I'm going to get a couple of mine done by a guy named Jerome Urbaniak in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He hangs over at the Vintage Leather Jacket Forum, (cheaterome) and has a site here: http://www.picturetrail.com/jrome...

BTW PLATON, what do you think of the sleeve taper on this A-2?

Thanks.. :)

It is an Eastman "House Style" HH A-2 that I picked-up on Aero Leather's sale page. I guess someone traded it in ;)

I love the sleeve taper on the Eastman, but actually prefer my G&B overall..... The hide on the G&B is thicker, and the shoulders are more square... I really would have been PO'ed if I would have spent $700.00 on the Eastman... :-s It makes the G&B a fantastic value IMO.

This happened like less than one month huh? I was watching their site too and suddenly the Eastman disappeared.

I bought one A-2 repro today, I will post some photos when it arrives.

Yes, it was about that long ago.. I was waiting on something else from Aero, and just let them send the Eastman along in the same package. It shipped from Scotland last Thursday, and arrived today...

Please DO post pics of your A-2 when you get it PLATON. :)

A-2 painted like this?
What you have shown is actually a decal that is applied to the shoulder
of the jacket, just like the originals were.

You can buy the decals from places like Garcia Aviation for a pretty
reasonable price. I think they aren't more than about 15 or 20 dollars.

You can apply them yourself with a hot iron, and once they are on,
they are on for good.

But...

If you get Jerome to paint it though, you will have a masterpiece on your
hands!

Go to the Vintage Jacket Forum, and you can find his website where he
has alot of pictures of his artwork. And it is just that, artwork! He is an
incredible artist who works with leather, and you will NOT be disapointed
by anything you get from him.

I would suggest if you are going to have him paint the shoulder insignia,
then pick out something to put on the back of the jacket as well to go
along with it, since he will have the jacket anyway. It might cost more,
but it will make the jacket a collectors item, and something you will
treasure for the rest of your life!

Whatever you deside, you can not get a better, nicer person to do it
than Jerome.

The Garcia decal is somewhat different

So, I guess the one pictured on the jacket above is painted.
What do you think?

Here's the Aero version

The edges of the first one you have shown in your original post have a
a darker part to them, like the decals have when they are applied.

Unless you can trim the clear portion that is around the decals, right to
the edge of the colored portions, you will get this slight discoloration after
they are applied.

The painted on ones do not have this around the edges.

I have an Aero Redskin B-3 from 2003, and my decal looks exactly
like your first posted one, right down to the color of the blue backround
field, and points on the star.

The one you have shown from Aero is alot darker than mine, but that
could be because its on seal colored leather, and mine is on the russet
colored horsehide elbow section of my Redskin, like the russet leather
you have shown in your first picture.

Either way, they look nice!

Mine came on my Aero Redskin B-3. I asked for it to be put on the
sleeve when I ordered the jacket, and they put the decal on for me
before the jacket was shipped.

Check Aero's website. I think they sell theirs for around 10 british
pounds. With the exchange rate changing everyday, I don't really know
what that would be in american dollars, but I would guess it would be
around 18 to 20 bucks.

I think this one is the best looking for an A-2 jacket:

Image

The other one looks to "modern" for an A-2 to look right. The first
one is more inline with what the originals looked like.

No actually, the other one is the one that was attached in their tunic, not in the A-2 jacket.

It's not modern. It's as original as it gets.

Ah, I see.

I still think the first one would look best on a jacket. Keep the other
one for the tunic.

Or, you can always get a nice hand made leather insignia from one
of the guys over on the VJ forum.

I don't know if Jerome (who does the painted artwork) makes them
or not, but just a simple search of the forum would answer that.

What ever you pick, it will be a nice addition to any flight jacket!
