I've owned lamb jackets before (undistressed) and they wore very quickly. I was always worrying about tearing, damage and wearing out the elbows.

How do the Indy Lamb jackets wear? Is there a difference between the Wested Lamb of today and the lamb used by current G&B jackets? Are they strong enough for daily wear?

Yes. I've worn my Authentic Lamb for almost two years with no problems at all.

I've had my Wested since 1999 and haven't had a problem. Even had a nail catch the sleeve once with no marks whatsoever. I've don't recall anyone with a G&B having problems, but some have had problems with some of the Wested stitching coming undone.

I've never owned a US Wings or FS lambskin jacket, but I have owned an authentic brown lambskin Wested Raiders for six years and it's held up perfectly with regular use. Of course, lambskin by nature is softer and thinner than something like cowhide or goatskin, so even mistakenly getting your lambskin hooked on something could easily tear it while a cow or goat skin would tend to hold up.

If you're considering buying a lambskin jacket, then I'd suggest you first decide whether it's worth it to you to always be vigilant about getting the jacket hooked on things; if you (like many) feel that's too much of a pain for an article of clothing, then go for a tougher hide.

Exactly.

Theoretically, it could last a lifetime. With general, casual wear and good maintenance the lining is more likely to give up the ghost before the leather itself, but the lining can always be replaced and any loose stitching can be repaired.

On the other hand, if you decide to lash your whip to a truck and go for a Raiders style dragride, you'll certainly diminish the lifespan of your garment.

I think it just depends how well you care for your jacket and what you do whilst wearing it. These two factors are paramount in determining the right type of leather for you.

The lambskin is a soft leather, but certainly adequate for regular daily wear unless you are engaged in some strenuous physical activity which may run the risk of spoiling or tearing your jacket. Unless you want it heavily weathered, of course..which lots of people do.

It's not a 'costume' jacket, it's meant for wearing - and the lambskin is a great jacket, accurate to what's seen on screen too of course.

However, if you think you may need something more hard wearing than the lambskin which will not require quite as much caution in terms of what you do whilst wearing it, one of the tougher leathers on offer may be the right choice for you.

Yeah, it definately depends how you live in it. I've owned about 6 lambskin jackets over the years, and my life is so tame, they barely broke in. On the other hand, when I was in high school, I could've given a horsehide jacket a run for it's money.

Thanks for the advice. I have no intention of living an Indy type life. Just normal wear was what I meant.

The jacket will easily last 10 years

So it's GBP145 / (10x365days) = 0.039

I believe we can afford it.

Only problem with your numbers, PLATON, is you're figuring the jacket will be worn all 365 days of the year, which we ALL know won't happen. So, it will last much longer than that.
