Deciding to buy a Wested

After reading Castor Dioscuri's thread about his new awesome-fitting Wested, I've decided to go ahead and buy one. I've got a few questions though.
Is Wested the company I should buy from?
As far as sending them my measurements, they say you can use a well-fitting jacket, correct? Well, my Class A military dress uniform jacket is a 40 Long and fits comfortably (if maybe a little tight in the back shoulderblade area). Do they need more than that?
I'm looking at buying the ToD version. I figure since I'm just a beginning gearhead, I'll try and combine the looks from all three movies with my apparel until I buy movie specific sets. I.E. Raiders-bashed AB, ToD Jacket... um... what for LC? Haha.

So is Wested the company you should buy your Wested from? Yes.
Send them your exact measurements also.

you may want to read about my experience. I am very disappointed in the service I got from wested, even after trying to give them the benefit of the doubt...

Hi all there!
IMO it's a bit hard to get a perfect well fitting jacket on your first Wested order. I can say that I finally got a perfect fitting jacket on my third order.
But you can't always blame Wested. Mostly you have to blame yourself because you have given wrong measurements. I just blame Wested for two times too big pockets. Make sure you get normal size pockets!
Here's a picture from my latest Wested Raiders Jacket. It's lambtouch! Thinnest leather available at wested. Fits really like a glove
love it!

When I ordered mine I asked for the chest size I normally wear in a suit jacket but also specified the exact "finished" measurements I wanted for shoulder, sleeve, and back length based on a good fitting jacket.
Mine fits perfectly and I haven't had a single problem with it.
Wested lists their "standard" measurements for each size on their website, so you should look at those first to see if any of those might suit you "off the rack" but I HIGHLY recommend not getting one like that and getting one made to measure.
One last thing I just remembered... if you ask for a specific back length it negates the difference between the Raiders and TOD jacket as far as Wested is concerned. The ONLY difference to them between those two jackets is the extra inch of length, so if you ask for a specific jacket length (as opposed to giving YOUR back length and making them do the math) it just confuses things to say TOD on top of that. When I asked for a TOD with a 27" back length they were originally going to make the length 28" until I corrected them. So I'd say order a Raiders and just specify whatever back length you want.
Unless you ask for something different, I think Wested's standard pockets on jackets in the 40-42 range are really big. Since Platon just ordered a 40 reg jacket that had really good looking pockets I'd ask for the exact same size pockets he did. Of course, I don't remember WHAT those measurements were, but the thread on his jacket is still floating around here somewhere.

wested has a good product and coupled with the fact that peter was involved with the original jackets, they are heavily sought after as the real mccoy jackets. now those of us who are not worried about screen inaccuracies, wested is a great company to procure your indy jacket from. go on the website, fill out the order form, and boom, your wested arrives with the fit that you inputted on the ordering form. some jackets at us wings may be cheaper in price but they do not offer customization and their patterns are further away from those of the hero jacket. and we all know that the flightsuit's expedition is a premium jacket and the associated costs go towards a more 'real world' jacket than a 'costume' jacket. unfortunately for our community, flightsuits does not take any customization requests.
those of us who want to get as close as possible to what we have studied/perceived on screen, wested can be quite frustrating at best unless you can actually get to the wested barn in person. peter has said he was never in this gig for the money so god bless him for that. i've been a loyal customer throughout 3 jacket orders and i am now trying for a 4th one from them. but with their poor correspondence skills and track record for errors on my previous orders, i may just have to seek a new supplier
.....and its not like i'm demanding all these specifications be done for the standard price either....i've asked them to name their price for it.
my 2 cents.

I actually inspired someone to buy a Wested?
Well, I can't comment on which jacket to get, but personally, I went with Wested as Botwright was involved with the trilogy (as pointed out).
The only issue I have though is that even with an 80's fit, the jacket still is a little bell shaped at times, as the bottom tends to flare out. This was solved by tightening the straps all the way, but most would advise against this.
I think if I could do it over again, I would have asked for the back panel to have tapered to {insert waist size}. Also, don't forget to give them your shoulder measurements for a proper fit!
Otherwise, congrats in advance! The waiting is the worst part, but it'll be so worth it!

For my money, I don't care who made the jacket as long as it looks right and lasts. Reading past posts is your best education here.

Wested has kept my order on record, so if you ask for PLATON pockets they will be able to make them like that.

If I were going to buy Wested again (I'm leaning towards G&B this time), I'd use Platon's pocket design. Pity they don't have goat. Maybe HH??

So I changed my mind and decided to go with the most screen accurate jacket to date and get put on the list for a cowhide one from Todds Costumes. Not that having "the" jacket from Wested would be bad at all, but I'll save buying one of those for down the road. Right now I'll go with screen accuracy.
