Wested Liner

I have had my jacket (apparently) since 2003 and my lining is getting old, especialy the sleeves. Would Wested replace the lining and how much would that cost? Also, do you guys think that after four years, the lining should come out? The rest of the lining is okay, but it's getting to the point that when I put my jacket on, I'm putting my arm through beteen the leather and the cotton. I'm sorry I don't have a camera to post pix so I can show you what I'm talking about.

They will replace the lining for you. I've not done it so don't know how much they charge. I have an inkling it not hugely expensive.

The follow up question to the people who've had this done: Does it feel like your jacket after it's been relined?
I know from experience that reheeling/resoleing shoes can completely change how they feel.

I also bought my Wested around 2003, and I don't know if this is similar to your problem, but I noticed a couple of months ago that the stitching was coming apart where the satin sleeves attached to the cotton body. I took it to a local dry cleaner, and they stitiched it back together for a wapping $4. However, there are also holes worn through the cotton liner in the same vicinity, but the cleaners said they couldn't fix those. I figured I'd just live with the holes until they got big enough to pass my arms thru, and then I'd just order a whole new jacket
.

That's my exact problem with my jacket, Jim. The holes are big enough for my arms to go through. I think what had happened was it started out as a small hole and I just ignored it. I emailed Peter at Wested and I'm waiting for a response. I used to wear my Wested EVERY day...even in the Summer evenings (and during the day). I figured if "Indy" can tolerate his jacket in Cairo, then my Wested here in Rhode Island shouldn't be a problem
. But I got many (un-Indy) jackets that are lighter for the warmer months that I think I can part with it for a while
. Unless of course the entire cost w/ S & H is $80.00, then I'll jsut take it to a seamtress.
PS: If anyone has had Wested replace the liner, what was the turnaround time for the process?

You could try a leather clothing company local to you. It's a common enough job and a bike leather shop might even be able to provide you with a poly/cotton twill that is much stronger and more comfortable than the original lining.

Agreed CM. You'll probably find it a LOT easier (and less expensive) to have it done right there in your back yard.

Any local tailor can replace the lining. It's not a complicated job but depending on the lining you chose can likely run you up to about $50. Ask around. It's still cheaper than shipping it back to Wested.

Here's the email I got from Gemma at Wested this morning:
" Dear Sir
If you would kindly return the jacket to us we will get this relined for you and returned . This will be a charge of £30 to cover the postage cost
Thanks Gemma "
That's about $60, right? Some places don't want anything to do with the leather. A friend of the family's has been our go-to gal but she won't touch the leather. What do you guys think??

$60.00 does not sound like a bad price to have the original company change the lining out... If it were mine, I would go for it...

Indiana Neri:
Is your jacket lambskin? I find that here in Texas I can wear my jacket up to about 80 degrees...if the humidity is below 90 percent, that is. I have a goatskin A2 with a nylon lining which gets pretty unbearable at 75 degrees.

Yep. I have the authentic Lamb. Do you guys think that the same problem would arise with cotton lining and satin sleeves? In my original email to Wested I had asked out of curiosity what the cost would be to have my lining replaced, this time w/ Satin sleeves. No response on that part.
