What if I DON'T use Pecards
OK, if I chose not to treat a Wested Lambskin with anything, not even the recommended Pecard treatment... what can I expect? Will I have problems? Will the jacket be vulnerable in some way?
I ask because I've been wearing various leathers for some 20 years or more, and I've never treated any of it.

Well, over time the hide will start to dry out and as we all know that's a bad thing. If you treat a leather jacket at least every six months you can make it last a lifetime. If you don't wanna pay the Pecards price try the leather lotion in the shoe dept of a wal-mart(aka satans favorite store). It's made for any leather item. I have used it on my jackets for years.
My opinion is that "treating" leather jackets with anything is WAY over-rated.. There is realy no reason to do it unless the thing becomes dry. I like mine to develope some character and I feel it henders that a bit if done too often. My habit is to try and never use it, though I know that there are those who prefer it to look prestine.

I can hear Michaelson pulling out his signature torch. You guys better not make him spill his coffee while he ties you to the stake
The main reason I use pecards on my jacket, and the main reason I'm fairly certain it's a good idea, is because it prevents the jacket from losing it's 'fit' if you get caught in a rainstorm. If an untreated jacket gets caught in the rain, it will dry to a different fit then before, particularly if left on the hanger (if left on your body it'll fit like a glove, but who wants to wear a wet jacket for 3 days?) Pecards to some extent prevents this. For the money, it's a good investment. And it tastes great on Pancakes!
Cheers

Nah. Do what ever you want. I can only offer my advice when its' asked for, and it's plain that most of it falls on barren ground, as the reasons ARE given when I give said advice. My advice has NEVER been offered so to keep gear 'pristine'. It has been offered to make it last beyond it's standard use time when it's not treated.
It's your gear, my friends. Do what you want with it. It's your money.

Just thought you should know, I like your advice. I may not follow it to the letter, but your opinions usually help me figure out how to get the results I want.Michaelson wrote:Nah. I have on jacket that has NEVER been treated and it has aged quite nicely. Even wore it in the pouring rain. My wested I just use some leather lotion I got with one of my coats. Not too much just enough to break it in when I first got it. Now it fits me perfect. I rarely hang it up either. Usually it ends up on the back of a chair or the floor.
