Hand Warmer Pockets Shut..

Will Wested or any of the other manufacturers delete the hand-warmer feature of an Indy jacket ? Has anybody here requested this? I'm thinking it would help with the sides puffing out while the straps are tight. I never use them anyway.

Delete them on your custom order...

I've not seen anyone do this. It would certainly simplify construction so I can image it not being too much of a problem. Of course it would be non returnable.
Personally, I use them all the time and they don't puff out either.

TE Lawrenece and I were in Blighty for the filming of Templars (It's almost done!), and we made the pilgrimage to Peter's digs. While Lawrence purused the stalls for new gear, I availed myself of the custom tailoring services.
The pockets on my lamb were getting seriously puffed out, and when loaded distorted the jacket beyond compare. Additionaly, when empty they hung open like a gutted trout, revealing the cotton lining.
Peter put his number-one man on the task, and my jacket was ready to go by the time TE had picked out his stuff.
Now the pockets have reasonable blousing when full, and the handwarmers no longer gape like a slack-jawed yockel.
Stitch 'em up, sez I!

I did it to my Wested lamb. Mainly because I never use them on my other jackets. It helps the look and drape of the jacket IMHO.

Yea, I know mine gape open on my old Lambskin a bit..most wouldn't be bothered by it I'm sure but I'm just the picky type and since I don't use them either..well I guess I'll request it on my next. I think keeping the straps pulled tight accentuates the puffing of the pocket sides.

You know, that's something that I never even thought of asking for in a custom order, or having done to my jackets after the fact all these years....and I can HONESTLY say I've NEVER used the side entry pockets for anything. Period.

I had the folks at Flightsuits (G & B) close the side entry pockets on my Expo. Much better without them. I found the side entry pockets (1) too small to be of any real value (2) given to snagging on just about anything, and (3) just puffing out all the time.

Like I said before, I never use them on any of my jackets. Since they are flat bottom, nothing will stay in them when you move around too. Also has _ noted, they would be more period correct as with the early A-2's and other flight jackets.
