Old new leathers at Wested?

I found on the Wested order form box that we can now choose Brown Lambtouch Hide too. So it seems that wested offers again this great hide.
The horsehide is now called brown horsehide. So maybe the actual horse is more authentic brown then dark brown? The goat is totally gone from the order box.

Much regards

If that's the case, they made a good choice in bringing the lambtouch back. :D

It's one of my personal favorites from Wested, and always has been.

Ok, now I'm confused. What exactly is the lambtouch? I mean, isn't that like...lamb?

I just placed a new wested order and I have choosen the brown lambtouch cowhide :) I wanted some thiner leather like the predistressed cowhide but I'm now more interested in the lambtouch!

Correct. It's a thinner cowhide jacket with the drape of lambskin.

Does the lambtouch have the durability of cow? Does it distress (or rather, not distress) like cow?

Sounds interesting... is it light like the lamb since it's thinner? I really wanted a goat-weight jacket next. How does it hold up under the Plymouth during the cold months?

In Christ,
Shane

Yep, it's as durable, because it IS cow, though it shows natural distressing a bit faster than standard cow due to it being thinner.

And yes, it's not bad under the Plymouth when it cold....but not as good as standard cow.

Shane I have read in older threads that the lambtouch cowhide has about the same weight and thickness as the lambskin which wested offers. The lambtouch is also much more durable as the wested lambskin.

Uh, yeah, that's what I said above....at least I thought I did. :-k

You might have noticed that I WROTE most of the old posts, as Peter and I worked together to get this hide introduced as an offering for the Indy jacket WAY back when.

Actually the lambtouch hide is thinner than the lambskin so makes a very lighweight jacket for warmer climates.
Cheers

Thinner than the original film jacket or same?

Posted: Thu Feb 22, 2007 9:34 am
by PETER
Thinner and very soft handle .6/.7 mm
The original film jackets were from lambskin similar in thickness to the lambskin .8/.9 mm we are using now but not soft like modern day skins.
Todays lesson is over. Schools out.

Sorry, Peter. Around this joint, school is NEVER out. (grins)

I wore my black lambtouch today, and it's definitely a good warm weather selection. It's almost 70 today, and very comforable.

Problem is, I can SEE Spring.....the grass is already starting to grow....and so we prepare our equipment for the annual attack with our lawn mower... ](*,)

Hope I can come up with the money before it's not available again. Man, just when I thought I'd bought enough jackets! I really want the lambtouch though. I wonder what color brown it is compared to bark brown and authentic? Will Peter have any problem using a different color thread that I provide?

Wait a second. You mean there are parts of the country where the grass isn't green and growing all year long? Our challenge here is just making sure grass gets enough water to survive the heat!

Don't mean to beat a dead horse but: For durability, drape and warmer weather wear, would you recommend the lambtouch over the lamb then? It sounds like a great alternative over the lamb. My main concern with the lamb is its durability. I'd like something lighter that I could use in my travels without having to worry (too much) about rips and snags.

Thoughts?

I have found it to be more durable...though I wouldn't want to be drug behind a truck wearing either  ....I'd still feel a bit better wearing the cowhide 'lambtouch' than a lambskin should that ever occur.

I've inquired with Gemma and I'll let you know when I get a reply.

Gemma is a woman of few words....
Dear Sir,
This will be closer to the authentic brown lambskin even though this is a different shade
Cheers Gemma
In any case, I think that the lambtouch would be a better choice for my needs so I changed my order from lamb to lambtouch. I think she's sick of me already!

No doubt, I find her replys to be less than humorous, so don't think you're the only one.

He you're probably going to be the first with this new leather - you better have a camera ready to go cause I for one can't wait to see it! Congrats!
