the ones that come with the aldens now are flat dark brown laces approx 4 to 5 mm wide and about 50" or so long.
it has been debated that the original raiders boots had round laces i believe. perhaps do a search for "aldens and laces" and see what pops up.
cheers

Ya know, when you're wearing your pants, they will cover up the laces and no one but you will know the difference. I left the construction boot looking laces on my J. Crew vintage work boots, and it doesn't bug me.

I found some flat brown laces at the local grocery store of all places. They're made by Kiwi, the shoe polish company, and are 45" long. Cost $1.49. Could be a little wider than the Alden laces but no one will ever notice.
It's getting harder and harder to find the flat laces.

i snapped my initial set of laces on the aldens and also the spare laces. i went looking for a substitute and i could find the right length but not the right width. it was a little more difficult getting them to tuck into the lace claws with the wider lace but in the end it wasn't too bad.
i didn't care much for the substitute laces so i found a store here that sold aldens and they gave me two pairs of alden 405 laces for free.
whew....almost had to buy another pair
