Does Wested have more Goatskin?

I'm seriously considering getting a goatskin Wested LC, mainly because many swear by its waterproof qualities, but recently they ran out of stock of Goatskin.

I've noticed, however, that Wested's site now lists Durable and Dark Goatskin as a choice of leather, so I was wondering if they had finally sourced a new supply of Goat?

As of last weekend they still didnot have a new supplier for goatskin, the previous ones eventually became too small and had a 'spine' mark down the centre.

The current Horse hide is really beautiful if you want something hardwearing but still supple.

I considered getting a horsehide, but figured that since my current (non-Indy) Wested being cut is a horsehide, I'll have to go with either the goatskin or lambskin.

The main thing, though, is that I'm going for screen-accuracy in a lightweight jacket, but also want something fairly durable for the occasional adventure.

I guess if the goatskin is still not available by the time my current jacket arrives, I might get a horsehide based on my opinions of my current horsehide jacket.

They have had to change their tannery again recently.

Their current lamb and horse are even nicer than before, but they seem not to have found a new source for goat.

Regarding lambskin, would you recommend their current lambskin as being more screen-accurate?

I know they originally used lambskin for the trilogy, but were the old lambskins from the movies anything like Wested's current supply?

Personally, I just think that Wested's current lambskin seems too soft and thin... Would Wested's current supply of HH or Goat be more screen-accurate as compared to Lamb, or is Lamb still the best choice for accuracy?

In other words, which of Wested's current leathers would you say would make the best match for what is seen on screen?

Maybe now's a good time to tell Peter that we don't necessarily need/want pristeen perfect skins on our jackets. Well, that's my personal view anyway..wonder if those hides that are turned away are in actuality the nice wrinkley, cracked and jerky ones that we (well, I) crave?

if you're looking for a screen accurate LC, i would go with cowhide as thats what the movie jacket was made of. i think those big collars need some weighty leather to them to look the part.

[-X The LC jacket was also made from lambskin.
Ask Peter ;)

this is what i got off of theraider.net:
By Last Crusade, the jacket was once again manufactured by Peter Botwright’s company and made from cowhide instead of the lighter lambskin and a snap button was added to the jacket’s storm flap to keep in closed, more akin to the design of the A2.
its bizarre. i don't know whats right now. the jacket on screen and on display looks, distresses, and drapes like cowhide. theres no way i'm going to argue with what peter has said. anyone else have an opinion on this?

Not really, I believe the main deal breaker on hese skins is they are just too small. Maybe they were using minature goats... or just got them from very far away.

I believe Peter when he says he made it out of lambskin. Plus, as someone mentioned here awhile back, there's no way cowhide flaps in the air the way Ford's jacket does in the seagull/beach scene. It does, however, seem to "look" more like cowhide than either the Raiders or TOD jackets, but that might just be because of the ultra distressing.

Hey nothing wrong with 2 HH jackets....its great stuff, and as others have attested, I also love my HHTOD.

What is your other Wested jacket in HH(what style)?
