I know that it has been said that the 80s fit was the original design/pattern and so on, but I am now considering a new jacket order and in the light of new evidence regarding pocket size etc etc, I am also troubled with the below question.

Does today's 80s fit jackets produce the same 'loose fit' that we see on screen?

The reason I ask is that I 've owned a pre-cow and it was tight on the shoulders and the body, not at all as what we see on screen.

Mainly, this question is addressed to people who own jackets of both the standard and 80s fit design.

Please let me know your thoughts.

i've both, i usually wear a 44 ( XL ) standard size, but the 80's fit me as i wear a 42 or less !

Ha ha, so when you order 80s fit, they just give you one size smaller?

That was the case with my pre-cow.

But I suppose that if you order lamb, then the lamb can be stretched by wearing and maybe become more loose fit.

i dont think if you order a 80's they just send a size smaller ! the top of the sleeves is less " tapered" than the standart

but for me, it fit smaller !! my jacket is not old enought and i 've not wore it enought to have a loose fit !

Is it possible, and I know I'm going out on a limb here, that Peter just sends out the same jacket regardless of requests? Unless of course you want something like gussets which are obvious on the coat.

The reason I say this is that my first jacket was a Raiders lamb with thicker skin requested. The second jacket (I had to get it and sell the first, too many ho-hos) I requested an 80s cut and did not want a thicker skin and I got the exact same coat, other than the fact it was 2 sizes larger.

Is it possible that the 80s cut (and some other requests) are in our heads and not for real?

Let me say that I'm in no way trying to say Peter is not trustworthy or anything like that. He does stellar work and I'm very much impressed with it. But you can't blame the guy if he rolls his eyes from time to time at our crazy requests (like Tone's version, which was like my first email I sent to poor Peter) and just sends out the jacket.

is it possible to get the arm holes cut smaller? i love my Raiders lamb but the arm holes are a little big. I guess they thought I needed it with a 48T jacket.

I've heard that a standard jacket is given 4 inches of extra room for movement, which in effect would make a size 40 jacket into a size 44.

It's also been said here that an 80s Fit means they make it fit one size smaller, making a size 40 into a size 39.

I'm wondering if either of the above is true? And if the +4 inches is true for 80s Fit jackets, would this mean that ordering a size 40 jacket would mean you'd get a very trim fitting size 44?

I know the Wested isn't an A2 jacket, but it sure looks to be based on it. I normally wear a size 42, but from my experiences with A2 jackets, I know I wear a size 44, just due to the jacket design and my body style, (professional arm chair race car driver ). About a month ago I came across a like new, just tried on, Wested that was a size 44. The owner had bought his normal size and it fit him small. The jacket was on the cheap, so I took a chance and got it. It fits me fine. It's small enough that it doesn't look like a trash bag when I wear a light shirt under it, yet it is big enough that I can wear a sweater with it in the winter. I won't say that the universal truth is to get a one size larger jacket if you don't want a really snug fit. I am saying that with my body shape, and the A2/Wested style jacket, I am more comfortable with one that is a size bigger.

Oh yeah, the Wested is a dark lambskin, that is beautiful. I couldn't tell you how screen accurate it is, and I don't really care. It's got a ROTLA certificate from Peter, and it is the nicest leather jacket I have ever owned. And that is what counts!!
