One more difference between RotLA and TOD jacket

I hear people say (incl Peter I guess) that the TOD jacket is nothing more than a Rotla jacket which is 1 inch longer.
Recent evidence however shows otherwise.
Among the differences are the smaller pockets that are placed farther away from the storm flap, also the storm flap of TOD is narrower than Rotla.
To that I should add that I think TOD is a slimmer cut with body and sleeves slimmer than Rotla. Also maybe the TOD collar is rounder than Rotla.
There should be other things as well, but this is subject of a more careful examination.
For the time being I present you one of the most noticeable differences which I recently discovered.
Look at where the yoke seam is on Rotla as compared to TOD.
Any comments?

The distance between the collar and the yoke seem is longer probably because the jacket is longer.

Really? And the LC which is NOT longer than Rotla, why it has the yoke seam same as TOD?

Or you want to talk about the distance of the strap to the bottom of the jacket on Rotla and LC maybe?

Because they are different jackets?

Yeah, they are different. But when you order LC from Wesyed you only get Rotla with bigger collar and press studs on the storm flap. That's it.

If only I could do that last step, I'd be one step closer to being able to enter the SDCCI's Masquerade competition!

My guess to why the yokes were changed after Raiders is that the pattern was thrown together quickly on the Raiders jacket and with a more restricted movement brought on by the thinner yoke, I think they changed the pattern slightly to allow more movement within the jacket since HF (and stuntmen) would be doing a fair share of movement in it.

My guess is that it was pure chance

you should also ask yourself when you are looking at screen grabs from TOD.....is that a wested or an emergency filler from the costume department (aka from the french company).
does anyone know which jackets were indeed westeds in TOD? i know noel howard has one but did he ever release the info as to where the jacket appears in the movie and who made it?......i knew i should've asked him more questions during the last e-mail.........
can't compare apples to oranges.

Why not? It's done all the time around this joint.

I thought the higher yoke in ROTLA was because of the 80's fit. If it's not please enlighten me, I'm so confused

The longer shoulder seam in LC might have something to do with the fact that the jacket is two sizes larger.
I'm pretty sure the beach scene was filmed in Spain.

If that was the case everything else on the jacket would be larger proportionally.
This difference doesn't have to do with size but with design.
Or you think that they cab't make a jacket of the same size with the yoke seam 2 inches higher?

The '80's fit' is a loose term we use for the pattern used for the Raiders jacket. All it does though is bring the jacket in for a tighter fit. It has nothing to do with the yoke. I hope that makes sense.
The longer shoulder seam in LC might have something to do with the fact that the jacket is two sizes larger.
So was Ford.

Exactly.

They sure can but Wested is hesitant because they say it's hard to get a skin the size of a larger back panel. My next order that will be my main focus of begging that they can do that for me...just this once. I recall seeing a small handful of Wested Raiders jackets that had the correct back panel placement. Oh, how I would love to see that corrected even though it's not as functional with it higher up. At least available by request on special order.

Perhaps Ford was a size 42 or 43 but the jacket was a 44?
Also didn't Peter design the jacket by memory, that might be the reason.

The back of my Wested is exactly like the foto from Raiders. I wear size 40. I think unless you wear size 56+ (!!!) they won't have a problem finding a large back panel.
And I keep hearing you say that the movie jacket is less functional, or that it's design restricted Ford's movement. Well, if you noticed the jacket was unzipped most of the time.
Despite the fact that the yoke seam appears to have nothing to do with restriction in movement, having the jacket unzipped means no difficulty in movement at all.
Also, I don't think Peter made alterations to the costume jacket because he cared to make our movement easier. If you want a jacket to be able to play tenis while wearing it, then you should be looking for something else. I think Peter just wanted to make the jacket roomier for those who have not Ford's build.
But of course that's my opinion.
Agent5 what is the distance from the collar to the yoke on your jacket?

I can't measure the back because it's on the mannequin but on the side of the arm it's 4 inches between the top shoulder seam and where the back panel meets.

In my jacket disctance from center of collar to yoke is 14cm (5.51inch) and ftom arm edge of shoulder seam to yoke 12cm (4.72inch)
I find that quite normal and accurate as per Raiders jacket.
