My New Jacket

Hi Guys,

They say fools rush in do they not ? Well, I rushed in to E Bay Uk earlier this week to find a jacket to virtually complete my ensemble. Upon seeing a promising IJ 'style' leather jacket at a good price I then rushed at the keyboard and placed a bid. To cut a long story short I won the auction (50 of your earth pounds) and am awaiting delivery of said jacket.
But now I feel a little tremor of trepidation inside (like the distance sound of a fast approaching big stone ball) as I read through all the posts here on the subjects of 'the' right jacket to buy. Collars, sliders, hides, pocket flap shapes....oh god, what have i done ????? Have I bought what might be described in some English circles as a 'Minger' ???? Did I really get the bargain I thouht it was ??
This is where you chaps come in - I know nothing about this jacket's pedigree, history etc. etc. all I can tell you is that it looks ok in the pic and it has a label on the inside of the collar which I think actually reads 'Indiana Jones'. Does anyone have any idea about my latest purchase ? Will it be a case of buy in haste - repent at leisure or am I ready for the adventure ? Hope you can help. I will try to attach some pics at some stage...
Regards to you all,
Murphy.[/img]

Sounds like its one of the 'official' jackets if the label reads Indiana Jones.

The wording in ebay auctions regarding Indiana Jones jackets can often be misleading. Really the one thing you want to look for is the make which should tell you everything. There are a certain number of makes which you can trust and find here on the board. Outside of that very little resembling the actual screen used jacket actually exists really and that advertised as such will actually end up being an A-2 or have other such errors.

With the official jackets, they are great starter jackets. They have the style and the look, although some of the details aren't spot on, they should do you well until you decide what it is you are really after - especially for £50.

However in general its probably best to avoid the official stuff in terms of accuracy - especially the hat for example as there are much better options out there for reasonable prices.

Anyway welcome to the club and have fun

Ken

I believe that's a Cooper/Disney jacket.

Looks nice.

Definitely Disney - read about it here:
http://www.indygear.com/gear/ojackets.htm

Doesn't look bad though - by all means. Just not the MOST screen accurate jacket in the world.

Here's one way of uploading your images to the forum:

Upload your photos to www.imageshack.us then copy the linking code entitled 'Direct Link to Image'.

Paste it onto the forum post you are making and wrap the following code around it, like this:

Code: Select all

So basically, you are pasting the DIRECT LINK URL you copied from imageshack and adding

Code: Select all

before it and

Code: Select all

[/img]
after it.

This will result in your image appearing in your post, like this:

Hope this helps,

Al

My new jacket arrived today ! As you can see in the pic in an ealier post it may not be THE most screen accurate jacket, it may not be a Wested - but it looks ok to me - especially for the price I paid.
Its pre distressed with a nice grain, in good condition, all the bits in all the right places, the weight is great, sleeves are a good length - and above all it is a good, usable everyday jacket - I shall be off to work in it tomorrow.
So all in all I am very happy with it and it has re-ignited my interest in collecting the gear - I will put the jacket with the rest of my stuff, push on and complete my collection, after which I will post some pics of it all to see what you fine folk think.
Regards,

Murphy.

That was the OFFICIAL Fan Club jacket for a while. It definitely has it's place in Indygear history. Supposedly, it's a great ToD jacket becaue of the length. That was my first jacket also.

I still have my "Disney" jacket that I bought in '94. It's relatively accurate (there are no MAJOR flaws in the design) and will always have a special place in my heart.

Murphy, enjoy your jacket; it sounds like a good deal in any case and I'm sure it'll serve you well. Now, lock up your wallet before you read too much more of the forum! ;)

Kind regards,
Magnoli
