eBay replica bag I bought

I bought one of the replica Mark VII bags from the eBay seller costumebay (in Singapore), I cannot recommend it. The strap was pleather as stated in the ad (I only paid $12 for it, so that was acceptable), the strap was about 2 feet too short, I had to have at its max length setting to keep it out of my armpit.
It is not canvas as stated in the ad, it is a distressed cotton fabric that is very limp, and it has a full lining like a purse. It will not hold its shape at all. It might be OK for a halloween costume, but it is not very useful as a gear bag.
I ordered a Lawrence replica bag, I'll post comparison photos when it arrives.

Thanks for sharing!
I've seen those bags on eBay aswell and thought they might be like something along those lines. It's nice to hear from someone in person.
Thanks.

However the bag DOES distress nicely using Todds tutorial, and once distressed, works rathar well as long as you replace the strap.
I used a Todd strap (also distressed) on my Singapore bag replica:
I also found that by stuffing the bag with a folded tee shirt, it will hold it's shape better (as seen in the photo). I still think
with a little work this , as you said, makes for a good costume bag for folks on a budget.
Ignore the hat..it needs replacing BADLY.

I got one of those too. I'm glad you got it to look so good.
If I were to get another I'd say try and find a real one, we have a Endicotts in the UK who has been sucessful in supplying originals at a very reasonable price.

I have a WPG and I've handled a Magnoli repro bag, not seen a Ordinance one though. (I believe that is a repro of a MKVI?).

I got exactly this bag last year and I was shocked, but after I changed the strap it was acceptable. I trashed the strap and use now the real one of my real Mk bag, that looks beautiful and this strap is also in use. But this remake, without a change is in my opinion not advisable

I just bought one of these, but I didn't see this thread until now when I did a search. The bag hasn't arrived yet. I hope I haven't made a mistake.
What do you guys think?

I definitely wish I did not get that eBay bag. I also got one from Lawrence, it is way better.

Sounds like if you change out the strap, you're good to go. Can't beat that for a $12 investment!

I just bought a dlx strap from Todd. I just hope it's not like putting a silk hat on a pig.

I keep looking at those costumebay bags (and other stuff), but now I know to stay away. The floppy bag issue was one of my main complaints about the Magnoli bag, but I've actually gotten used to it. Since I actually carry stuff in it, even while in my gear, it holds a good shape.
I just got a real MKVII from Endicots. It's used, but it's much stiffer than I expected!
By the way,
Rabbittooth; I think your hat looks fine. Oh, and is that a "Streets of Cairo" or a "Raven Bar" green pixie?

I have the same bag. Picked it up last year for Halloween. My son (and an Indy fan too
) uses it for his DS and stuff. Now to find a size 12 boys Indy jacket...

I ordered a Lawrence replica bag,
I received my Lawrence bag about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately the strap that comes with it is webbed and way too short (I guess that's the way the original bags came). It was also a little 'soft' but it stiffened up a bit after a wash. Be aware that the color changes quite a bit if you bleach it. It's a little yellower now but still not bad. The Lawrence bag also does not come with the metal disk of an original and it's also not the 'screen green' of the movie bag.
As for the strap, I went to a saddlery and bought a custom made bridle leather strap made to my (ok, your) specs for CDN$19 (including the Chicago screws). Another couple of bucks for the buckle and I had a strap that cost me less than ordering one online.
All in all I'm very happy with my new bag.

right now there are only two on there that look like MKvII actually one I dont know but the one that does is pricy 75 euro's but that's because its complete with a gassmask and everything

I bought one of the singapore bags within the last month....crappy strap, But I think the bag looks great. I prefer it to be not so stiff. And the lining doesn't bother me, either.

Try to change some things on this bag like I did and you will see this bag is pretty ok

I got the Singapore bag and am quite happy with it. The lining doesn;t bother me, either, and I don't even mind the pleather strap. Another, less bulky way to get it to hold its shape is to make a liner out of some stiffish, but flexible plastic sheets. I plan to do this as soon as I find the right material. The length is fine for me (maybe the maker is as short as I am!) I tend to let things weather naturally, so I won't know how it looks that way until the end of summer at the earliest. As I always say, even Indy's must have been new once. Besides, he must have worn out wuite a few, so kept having to get new ones at the Army-Navy store down the road from the college.

Rabbittooth, what brand of camera took those photos?
And, I agree, the gear's looking good. I might spring for one of the bags and get a new strap.

I have one of those eBay Singapore specials too. The strap was garbage, it was some sort of fake vinyl leather, but after a Todd's strap replacement, the bag doesn't look too bad. One of the vents came off, but after some glue therapy it looks just fine once again.
