The dog hat after another month outside

This hat has gotten drenched many more times since I last showed it. I grabbed an old 1 5/8 ribbon that came from a reblock for someone, and threw it on to make it look more like a hat. I did not notice it was a 1 5/8 inch one until after I took a few pics. So, I just folded the top of the ribbon down to 1 1/2 inches to make the hat more in proportion. Your eyes are not playing tricks, the ribbon does decrease in width!!

I think it has been several months now since I put the hat outside to see how it would hold up in 24 hour a day weather. I will let you be the judge. Ok, here she is.

Okay, are my eyes playing tricks on me, or does this hat actually look BETTER now than it did the last time you posted pics of it (right after Fido had it for a snack  )

Maybe it's the ribbon? Speaking of which, I'm amazed at how much of a difference that tiny little 1/8 of an inch makes on the overall look of the ribbon when on the hat! You can really see it on the pic you took before folding the ribbon over. If you hadn't said the ribbon was 1 5/8 inches, I would have guessed it was more like 1 3/4!

Here is one of the earlier ones, a few months ago. But, what I did do was just to re-define the creases, with just my hands, and put the ribbon on. That is all.

I love the way the brim curls down at the back before curling up - that's SO Raiders and I can never get that on my my hats.
I love this "dog hat" -looks better than my main hat!

Call me a proud b*****d for developing the technique that made THIS possible, I don't care. Fact is, this hat looks fxxxgxn' awesome and fact is: if it wouldn't have gone through the exclusive Adventurebilt aging treatment, it would look like a piece of @#$% by now!!!

Thanks for sharing my friend! To me this is worth more than a five minutes commercial during superbowl :D

Regards,

Marc

So has this hat been sitting outside 24/7 for a few months or was it sat outside just once during a 24 hr period?

Either way the hat looks #### good. It seems the worse you treat these hats the better they look.

I bet someone would take that off your hands for the full price. :)

Now wait a minute here, this is just nonsense. Either this is the Twilight Zone or there has been some kind of fedora breakthrough here, because you cannot honestly say that that hat has not been reblocked, or is it a fact that my fedora that should be arriving soon will have a long happy life?

:D :?:

Didn't you have two dog eaten hat's Fedora? You should toss the other one out w/o the treatment for comparison.

Yeah, I see what you mean. The latest pics show the hat almost sinking and bulging down a bit from the rain I guess. And I dropped the front pinch when I creased it again.

Yeah, but not in the same time period. I had two hats, maybe three eaten a couple of years ago by my neighbors bulldog, and posted pics of those at the time. This one here happened last Fall I think, and I decided to not throw it away but to put it outside to see how it would hold up, in the taper department.
So has this hat been sitting outside 24/7 for a few months or was it sat outside just once during a 24 hr period?

Yes, this one only comes in for the photos. It lives outside my hatshop, sitting on the top of a bottle of propane. I have fetched it a couple of times off the ground when we got some high winds back in December. The spots you see is Mississippi clay, put there by the dog who chewed it up. I keep thinking the rains with wash it out clean, but so far, this has not happened. Of course, if you have ever had southern clay on your boots, you know it sets up like cement and you have to take it off with a hammer and chisel. Fedora

Well, if there is another one that get's destroyed and isn't treated, you should test it for a control subject to have something to compare this to and see how bad they fair with out the treatment. It would just be nice to see the difference.
