Here's an 8 ft kangaroo Indy whip I just finished. I tried to incorporate some of the features I found in pictures of Raiders whips, namely: wide-cut strands; large, squarish knob; no swell at the transition. For some of the dimensions of the whip I tried to use the ones Sergei posted when he measured the Raiders whip that Mark Allen sold.

Everybody seems to have different things they're always looking for in an Indy whip, so this one probably won't be everyone's cup of tea.

When I pick this whip up it makes me think of the one used to swing across the pit when they're going after the Idol. With a little age I think the color of this whip will be right on for that whip.

Funny, looks kinda white. Still great though.

Yes, VP, the color is very light. I made the whip from natural hides from Simon Martin, which are not drum-stuffed, so the hides look basically white when new.

With this whip I rubbed Pecards into the hide before I cut it up, and then I rubbed in more Pecards after the whip was braided, but before I rolled it.

The color still ended up rather pale, though I expect it to darken just like drum-stuffed natural kangaroo. This whip is up for sale right now, though if no one buys it I'll keep tabs on how fast it darkens.

I know it's going to darken up, but I love the color it is now.

Nice looking whip. It'd be interseting to see what it looks like a year from now. Oh and on a side note, do you plait your point very tight? That's something I always wonder about with each whipmaker. I know that russle schultz are thin at the end which allows breakign down of the point to be a faster process (which isnt good of course)

I'd say I plait the point as tight as the rest of the whip, though before I tie the fall hitches I pull all the strands as tight as I can, and then before I tie each hitch I give the strand another pull.
