I just got my new 1947 Howard Hughes style beaver hat from Jimmy Pierce. After finalizing the details, I actually got the hat in ONE WEEK! This dude is on the ball, so get your hat from him before he becomes more famous and his wait time increases! Really nice hat. I'm not sure I have the brim exactly the way I want it (is a hat EVER exactly how you want it? ). A little more tweaking, I think, but it is fine for now. It is a dark brown felt which looks darker inside than outside (naturally!) and suits me, I Think. The crown, by the way, was 5 1/2" open and the brim is 3". Originally, I thought I wanted it 2 3/4", but I called him back a couple minutes later and said "make it 3 inches". With a bound edge, we both figured that it would make a 2 3/4" brim look a bit too small. Glad I changed it!
The photos are lousy, but here goes...
So, for any of you wanting to get an Indy hat in rabbit or beaver, I can certainly vouch for Mr. Pierce's hatmaking, as can some of the other members here who have gotten a hat from him.
Not Indy, but cool hat!
