TOD cargo pockets

greetings,
i've noticed on the main website that the cargo pocket specs for the TOD jacket is 6" tall x 5" wide (placed 2.5" from zipper and 2.5" from the bottom of the jacket). is this correct? those pockets are pretty small in size and i can't seem to get a good screen grab that backs that up. supposedly this was taken by a screen used jacket owned by noel howard?
any advice will help. thanks all.

i received correspondence from noel in regards to the sizing of the pockets on his authentic TOD leather jacket. they are 6" tall x 5 1/2" wide. the indygear site has these speced at 6" x 5", so only off by 1/2".
i've got wested building me my authentic TOD jacket for a premium and a non-returnable status. i will post pics in a month or so when it arrives.

Indiana G have you received your TOD jacket yet? Would love to see some pics of the TOD jacket which wested made for you.
I also consider a TOD jacket on my next jacket order.
Anybody knows which differents a wested TOD from a wested Raiders jacket? I don't mean screen accuracy.
TOD:
Cargo Pockets (Very small compared to raiders)
Much narrower sleeves
1 inch added to the length
Any inputs welcome.
Much regards

The only difference Wested makes on TOD style jackets (and says it makes) is having the jacket slightly longer (inch or so). They do not change the sleeves or the pockets.

i am waiting with baited breath orb. i got the shipping notification last week so it is en route.
this is a particularly special jacket to me as i fed gemma my list of specs and asked her to quote me.....price is not an issue!!!
...then i got the price.....and it still wasn't an issue (or thats what i had her believing over there while i took on a part time job over here!!!
just kidding).
here was the specs i asked for:
- 80\'s cut, size 42 short as per first jacket order (my second order, no 5567, was in a size 44 and i would like this TOD one to be more fitted like my first order)
- TOD length to be 1.5\" extra length in lieu of 1\" extra length from the standard raiders jacket (i.e. the back should measure 26\" from the first seam of the collar to the bottom of the jacket)
- extra 1\" taper in sleeves for more of a fitted look in the arms
- no leather facings on zipper
- leather collar stand
- silver RiRi zipper
- x-box stitching on side straps (c/w antique brass D-rings)
- cargo pocket dimensions: 6\" tall x 5\" wide w/ flap measuring 2 3/4\" down the center (very small pockets)
- cargo pockets to be placed 2.5\" from zipper/storm flap and 2.5\" from bottom of jacket
- 1 pc gusset
- personalized name tag
i am expecting all of these specs to be met considering i paid a premium and accepted its non-returnable status.
....now just got to wait for it to get here.....

its here! the fit is bang on....the best yet IMO. the leather is waaaaaaaaay softer than my first jacket in the authentic brown lambskin. i am amazed by the texture of this. only two minor things that went wrong:
one side of one of the straps has a "\ - box" instead of an "X-box"....must of got missed.
and the only other thing is they mispelled my first name on the jacket tag.
as you can see, nothing to worry about. the rest of the specs they nailed. i'm extremely happy with the fit as i based it on my previous jackets. i will post some pics tomorrow.
cheers

Indiana G we need some pictures
The misspelled name isn't much of an issue imo.
Somebody even misspelled Elvis full name on his gravestone
About the forgotten X-box stitching. Wested have forgotten one complete X-Box stitching on my last jacket. However I had to sent it back for another reason.
Much regards

Wow, those pockets are going to be SMALL!
The ones on my jacket are about 7" x 6" and they are pretty wee.

Hmm, sounds like I've got to go with an 'Indiana G Special' on my next order!
Say, how much did this set you back anyhow? Does getting a custom jacket with all these specs cost significantly more than an off the rack?

ok....make that 3 things wrong. i found out that the sleeves are not tapered. with the way the lambskin drapes on the sleeves and the right sleeve length this time, i cannot tell. i actually thought it was tapered. i can't even picture it if it was tapered as i love the way it drapes now....so again not a biggie. peter knows what he's doing on how the cut of the sleeves are to be.
i cannot stress how light and buttery the leather feels. taking out the leather facings on the zipper gives the jacket more of a 'shirt' feeling when its on you as it is less robust. i guess this is personal preferrence on how you intend to wear your indy jacket.
here are some pics of her....possibly the last jacket i'll ever need (but never say never especially when indy 4 is coming out!
)
and the back:
i'll get some pics with it on soon....it'll kind of look goofy if i'm wearing my pajamas underneath

Indiana G does the cuffs also looks a big non tappered?. I really don't understand why wested can't get things right. I mean you said you paid a premium for it. Such things really holds me off buying another Wested again. My Raiders HH does have a bit bulky arms and cuffs but I have stated on my order tappered sleeves & cuffs and now that things are even bigger as on a standard jacket. I asked a leather tailor yesterday and to narrow them would cost 100usd. But I think I have to made it because when I sit the sleeves looks like popeye arms to me
However Indiana G your jacket looks very temple of doomish and with some tweaks it's perfect!

IMO, peter may know that taperring the sleeves will take away from the cut/look of the jacket. the large barreling in the sleeves that i have experienced on my previous jackets, i believe were caused by too short of a cuff on one and too stiff of a hide on another. this will make your sleeves look like tubes when hanging at rest. the latter issue may be rectified once the leather wears down after a while (it may take a while for goat or horse to do so though).
when you have the right cuff length and very soft draping leather, the sleeves fall correctly and collapse around the shape of your arms and this is the effect that we are trying to get.
granted if you order a stiffer hide, you may wish to insist on tapering the sleeves so you don't have to wait for the leather to break down and conform. i've noticed that the movie jacket in LC (cowhide) looks like the sleeves taper from the elbow to the cuff....either that or HF developed popeye forearms in 89.

IG - that jacket looks nice and the color is great! I think the same thing about how soft the leather is,I couldn't believe how soft it was when I got mine. It really is like wearing another shirt...just a really cool shirt.
What are your thoughts on the small pockets?

by Indiana G
thanks kev. the tiny pockets scream TOD and that part i love. as far as useability or practicality goes on the cargo and the hand warmer aspect, it is far from. it is hard to access either of them and i have small hands to boot. the pockets will be primarily for show.
i believe this just gives me an opportunity to get my mkvii bag in use again!

I didn't think you would be able to use them...but nothing wrong with having something just for looks! It seems that you should be all set for a great ToD outfit!

Well, G, I'd say you have yourself a dead-ringer for that screen-used ToD jacket that Noel Howard has!!! That new Wested looks awesome, and I'm not even a huge fan of the ToD look. One day I do hope to own a full set of gear for each film, (if I can ever get all the Raiders gear the way I want it) and when I start on the ToD stuff, I'll be sure to ask Peter for the "Indiana G" specs!
Now, are you gonna distress that baby to make 'er look like NH's jacket?

IG - how long is the back panel of your jacket? Is it 26 inches like you wanted?
Posted: Thu Feb 01, 2007 6:43 pm
by Indiana G
GCR,
hey buddy, i can't take credit on these specs as they were researched in great detail by a member named "yurik" i believe. its directly on the indygear website for the leather jacket. supposedly he analyzed the actual jacket to make these specs. i'm just a member that has recently went that extra mile to have it made
as i am devout member of michaelson's school of natural distressing, the sandpaper and alcohol will stay in the drawer.
platon, thats a very nice compliment from a member like you. i know you've studied the jackets in great detail so i'm happy that you see the look that i am aspiring to. there's 2 things that i think that'll make it extremely screen accurate though (aside from removing the x-box's)....installing the pronged buckles and sewing up the action pleats up a bit. i think i may do that in the future but for now i'm quite happy.
kev, when are you going to leave the raiders brigade and join the thugee cult with me?
the back panel measures a hair over 25 3/4"....close enough for me!

Indiana G,
Thanks for your comments. If you ever wanna order a new TOD (made by other leather maybe) I have some suggestions to make. Just contact me when you are ready.
Also, I am going to look for the pronged buckles in the local market here (I know a place that probably has them) and I will be happy to send them to you.

thanks platon. please let me know when you source the buckles

It wont be long trust me. Despite the fact that my ab rabbit will be a raiders bash, I am a bigger fan of the loose pinch (that probably comes from only having DPs)...and I would like my jacket to be about an inch longer, so the next one will definately be a ToD!

nothing is more manly than wearing your indy gear.....nothing says "rugged adventure" more than indiana jones and no other movie can come close to exhibiting indiana jones' machismo than the temple of doom........that said, check out my pink towel behind me.......
so join me and my trusty pink towel and we'll crush the thugee cult once and for all!!!! who's behind me?!?!?
....time out....time for my meds

G, those shots are pure TOD!!! That jacket looks even better worn than it does on a hanger, it somehow makes the pockets look more to scale or something (or at least to my eyes they do). Anyways, I think you're just an elephant short of having the perfect set of ToD gear!
And HEY, that's TWICE now you've managed to get a Wested with a SILVER zipper...did you have to provide the zipper yourself for them to install, or did you just have to pay extra or something for them to source a silver zip for you?
While my own Wested may not be screen accurate down to every stitch, it still fits the bill close enough for me, but the one thing I just don't like is that brass zipper...(that and the D-rings, but I already replaced those)
I'd like to order my next Wested with a silver zipper, so any input as to how you managed to score TWO silver zips would be appreciated (as I hear Wested won't always give you a silver zip).
Once again, that's a sweet jacket you have there, G!!! The pink towel ain't so bad either

thanks GCR! the first silver riri zipper, i just asked for it in the additional comments/request box in the wested order form. that could've been just luck because i had no idea that peter would give you a brass zipper if you specifically asked for a silver one.
the second one was a must have so i would've been extremely disappointed if it was not accomodated. i had close correspondence with gemma on the specs of this jacket. i'm sure that if you e-mail/phone gemma or peter and let them know that not having a silver zipper is a deal breaker, i'm sure they can accomodate you. perhaps you can confirm that they have a silver zipper in hand for you before you finalize the order....that should gaurantee it.

I totally agree with GCR that jacket looked great on the hanger, but looks much better on and it really does make the pockets look more to scale!

I was sceptical abut the small pockets at first but the pics with you wearing it really works. The sleeves do not look at all wide either.
That jacket has a really good TOD vibe.
Next stop LC perchance?

thanks erri, KT for the kind words.
i don't know about doing up the LC jacket....i'm gonna keep that on my wishlist for now.
i still have some work to do in finding a good TOD village hat which supposedly is a stetson but cannot be duplicated with today's stetson temple.
baron hats come with a black ribbon which i'm not very attracted to. fedora is turning my rabbit AB into a bridge fedora so i may hit up JPD for the village hat.....thats the one that everyone hates
