I have a quick question for all of you. Regarding the angle of the front pinch. Just at the area above the ribbon, is it supposed to angle back or more straight up with a slight angle bakward.

My AB angle back some and I don't know if I'm being cumpolsive or not, but I've twice now popped out the crown and front pinch/bash and no matter what I do it just seems to go back the way it was. When I first got my AB way back when it didn't angle back so much, but after a re-bash by Fedora its angled back more than I like. Now I'm in line for one of those Rabbits and I've agonized w/Fedora about this and I'm hoping that he understands that I don't want the front to angle back.

I'll get tsome pic soon, but does anyone else have this or am I nuts. Who else has a pic or two of the side profile.

The front pinch as seen from the sides angles back. Now, the degree of that angle is in proportion with how deep the front creases are, as well as how far you drop the front pinch down. The hat shown in the exterior temple scenes has less rake, but if you look at the front creases, they are rather shallow.

Also, once a hat is creased into the Raiders style, with the deep front creases and tight pinch, it is hard to get it to change, as the felt develops a memory.

One more thing, when a felt hat shrinks it first shrinks on the front and back, so as time goes by the raked back look gets too drastic.

If you want deep front creases the way the hat looks throughout most of the film, you have to have the rake. Otherwise, the hat block would have to actually be longer at the top than at the head opening in order to give you a straight up pinch as seen from the sides. They don't make em like that.


If you crease a freshly block hat off of my block, and do the LC style, the front pinch is practically straight up. Deeper front creases along with a tight pinch means something has to give. In this case the felt gives, thereby raking the front of the hat. I always thought the rake to be essential to the total look, as long as the angle is not too severe. Fedora

Here are some profile shots...the pinch definitely angles backwards above the ribbon. More so in some scenes than in others, but it is always there.











I think the angle of the pinch is a result of how tight the pinch is set. On a more relaxed pinch, such as an LC style hat, you get a much straighter look.

Here are a couple that show less rake. Notice the front creases are not as far back as in some of the other hats. Less front crease equal less slant.

These are the pics of the Fedora rabbit I want you to bash (hanging of the truck scene) for me or should I say the one you'll be bashing for me when you get to mine. The front pics I sent to you be email show the way the hat just plain looks beat up, kinda sorta. But I think you understand the over all look of my AB rabbit.
