Indy's Ties... Pankot Tie FINISHED

by Indy Magnoli
As some of you may know I have started offering neckties at my clothiers site. I know several of you are interested in Indy's ties but, since I have to do these in large runs, I thought I would gauge interest here before doing my first Indy tie. So, which one tickles your fancy?
Top Left: Raiders Washington Necktie (blue/green on red)
Top Right: Raiders Marshall Necktie (burgundy/cream on green)
Bottom Left: Temple Pankot Bowtie (green/purple on grey)
Bottom Right: Crusade Barnett Bowtie (blue on red)
Not shown: Crusade Venice Necktie (solid burgundy)
Let me know your thoughts on these. These will all most likely retail for $40 (shipping included).
Kind regards,
Magnoli

I don't see the Venice tie on the list!

Oh... alright, I'll add a plain burgundy tie to the list for you.
...er, how do you edit a poll?
Kind regards,
Magnoli

I'm not really a bowtie kind of guy, unless it's for formal wear (tux and the like)...but I really like the looks of the two Raiders ties! Very nice!

hey IM,
i went to a x-mas party and found a brown bow tie with green and blue dots....too many for the screen accurate charcoal brown w/ green dots bowtie from the pankot dinner. i chalked it up to a close enough but i sure wished you had these available back in september/october.
what i really would like is a LC irish poplin tie thats reasonably priced.
keep up the great work sir!

I want them all... but for starters, I'd choose the Marshall tie and Pankot propeller.

Washington, because I also want a Washington suit and an unturned seaplane gray RotLA hat.

I'd be all over the Washington and Marshall neckties.

I vote for the Venice Tie. But ya had ta go and add it to the list AFTER I voted so my vote don't show up no how.
(Rememer folks, "vote early and vote often!!")

Alright... I think I'll start with the Washington necktie and then perhaps a month later do the Pankot bowtie. I am tweaking my designs at the moment, with the help of a
very picky COW member
to make sure I get all the details just right. I'll keep everyone posted.
Kind regards,
Indy

Tony, we,ve established that the Venice tie is not solid burgandy. Were you just throwing that in there for good measure, or will you try to duplicate that tie true to form, too?

Yes, I'll be able to do this tie as a silk jacquard with a subtle window pane pattern to it. The other trick is getting the color just right. Anyone else got a Pantone book that is interested in this tie? I'm looking at 490 C, 498 C or 504 C.
In any case, this particular tie is a little lower on the priority list, but I will get to it.
Kind regards,
Indy

Awesome! Hopefully by the time you get to the tie, I'll be able to purchase my Venice Pier

I'm now on my fifth version of the Washington tie... we are going to get these details right if it kills us!
Perhaps the Venice tie will be second on the list now...
Rick, have you been doing some covert lobbying?

Indy

Best to have it as right as possible the first time rather than have gearheads figure out later it wasn't.

You're absolutely right! This tie is going to be perfect by the time we're done with it!
Anyone with a Pantone book care to check my selections for the Venice tie?
Kind regards,
Indy

@Indy Magnoli: I'm really interested how the ties will look when you finished them!
Could you also offer them in a 30s or early 40s shape?

Henrik

They are going to be shaped and lengthed more by vintage then modern standards. I played around a bit with this to make a design that would please both the vintage and contemporary crowd. What I've come up with is a tie that can be worn shorter (without the back dangling down) or by someone with a thicker neck (who often can't fit true vintage ties). And for those of you who are worried... the vintage pattern will look screen accurate when tied the same way as Indy's.
For those who haven't seen my ties yet, here is one I made based on Bogey's tie at the end of Casablanca:

Magnoli

Do you have a pic of one tie lying flat on the floor? It would be easier to get an idea of the shape of your ties!

I am surprised that he hasn't located and bought the original screen used tie, and sent it to you to help get the details correct.
What was I thinking? Putting more ideas into Rick's head!

I'm not much on bow ties -- with a rather round face, they don't suit me well. But I'd love to have either of the Raiders neckties (Marshall or Washington). Both look great (though I kinda like the Marshall tie better -- I guess I'm in a minority there).

Randy

You're right and no, you are not in the minority. I'm with you on that one too.

The Marshall looks better, but I'd like to see a complete RotLA suit set-up first.

Indy:
You need to go beyond suits, ties, shoes, boots, etc. and into plastic surgery, so we could LOOK just like Harrison Ford. We could select between the ROTLA Ford, the TOD Ford, or the LC Ford. What a business opportunity for you! There would still, of course, be those who would quibble over screen accuracy!!

Yeh, and you could sell a voice modulater like they used in Mission Impossible
Of course I want a Sean Connery voice replicator so I can watch my wife melt all over the floor when I ask her what's for supper instead of the usual dirty look!
Found the suit!!!
, working on the tie!!!
By the way, Tony's suit is dead on!!!

Well... I'll look into face replication shortly; but in the mean time, you'll all be happy to know that the Washington tie is currently in the works. Hopefully the first run won't take more than a month. Stay tuned...

Hey Magnoli, can you tie the tie, whether on yourself or on a mannequin? I want to see if it makes that tight Four-In-Hand knot that I love about 30's ties.

Ask, and ye shall receive:
Because these ties have a considerable taper, you can get some different affects by tieing the knot higher or lower on the tie. I believe all of Indy's ties are windsor knots, my personal preference as well.

Magnoli

That seems to be the case. Indy's knots are rather small, but even.
In the Venice Pier scenes, it looks like Marcus sports a four-in-hand.

Hey Tony
any new updates on the tie project? I really would love a Venice Tie to complete my suit.
And then a Washington Tie to go with the suit I'm in the final stages of ordering.

The Washington Tie should be added to my site within two weeks. I'll be sure to post it here as well when it's finished. I'm still debating which one to do next.

Indy

I prefer the Windsor knot as well. I don't like the knots that are thin... How many knots are there? I know of the Windsor and half Windsor, the Pratt, and the Four-in-hand. Aren't there others?

There are
85 ways to tie a tie... though only 10 of the knots are aesthetically pleasing.
Buy the book - it's most entertaining.

The Washington tie should be available in about one week.
In profound thanks and respect for Curator Rick, I will next be doing the Venice tie... and because it's the next highest on the poll. 8-[
Now, is there anyone out there who would like to help me verify the color using a Pantone guide? Now, using web colors is necessarily a dangerous tool, but since most of you don't have a Pantone book, here are the web equivalents to my choices:
490 C ████████████
498 C ████████████
504 C ████████████
The web colors look a bit dark, but it's hard to confirm these without a Pantone book. In any case, I think I'm leaning towards the 504.
Kind regards,
Indy

I'm thinking of the Venice and Pankot Bowtie neck, but I'm also looking into doing a black LC tie. I think I might have a "close enough" fabric sorted out for it, but I've got to confirm a few things.
Once I have a few sales on the Washington tie to help pay the bills, I'll be proceeding with the Venice tie.

Indy

But I'll buy a Washington tie to pay the bills for the VENICE tie!
