The smoking question got me thinking? What was Indy drinking I recall a few times Indy drinking in the movies. The first was at his house when he was first going after the ark? Then he had a drink at Marions bar. Then when he thought she had died. Marion also offers to buy him a drink at the end. ( All from raiders) I think it was some type whiskey anyone know for sure?

In the Raiders Cairo bar scene Indy drinks "Belle of Lincoln" whiskey.

WELLL, yes and no. The bottle was definitely a "Belle of Lincoln" bottle, but I've NEVER seen ANY form of Jack Daniel's product, both old OR new that clear....with the exception of raw whiskey that had never been placed in a barrel....and they never did sell that way....legitimately.

So, we're not real sure WHAT was in that bottle.....

So....It was the "hard water" In Nepal and the dates in Cario..........Bad combination.

What was belloq smoking in the cario bar anyone know??

Something from a hookah, but it could have been lots of things. Maybe someone can analyze the appearance of the smoke and determine what was in the hookah. Hey, with some of the talented people we have around here, I wouldn't rule out the possibility!

I often wondered if it was some form of opium, not sure if that was common use then? In the early days of coca cola it had cocaineand was used in the USA.

Regular old tobacco is usually the normal thing smoked from the hookahs in Arabia.

It's usually a thick gooey form of tobacco that is usually flavored and placed on top of coals. It's quite enjoyable really, very smooth and tasty.

One year at the Comic Con, I recall hearing from someone who worked in movie productions that for scenes in which alcahol supposed to be the liquid being consumed, they often substitute cream soda or root beer (water for vodka), as there is a law in the United States prohibiting the consumption of real alcaholic beverages in a film. Tea isn't too much of a long shot.

Ok, I was talking about the bottle he broker over the head. Look close. Indys says "Whiskey" and she hands to Indy JW. She must have known that was his favorite AND it is an expensive swallow to boot!

Yeah, George Wendt has complained on several occasions that he's drunk gallons of weirdly coloured water with foam on top over the years for Cheers.

He should work in the UK, the Eastenders Pub and Coronation Street Pubs both serve real beer.

However, watered down tea is often used for whiskey, and water for vodka. Also one of the reasons that stage/tv/movie drunks drink vodka/gin... it's so much easier to prop!

Actually you're both right. Indy gets his drink from the JD bottle at the beginning of the scene, which is sitting on the bar itself, but when he asks Marion for a the whiskey bottle to break over the guys head, that is a bottle Johnny Walker she grabs off the back bar.

The JD bottle was broken by machine gun fire while sitting on the bar itself, and is the source of the material that is ignited on the bar top. (no, I haven't studied that scene very closely. Why do you ask? 8-[ )
