MotB Shawl cardigan sweater

Post by Bufflehead Jones »

About a year or so ago, several folks were searching for a shawl cardigan that was similar to the one in the Mystery of the Blues. One of the best that was found, was the fireside shawl cardigan from Orvis. This one had the proper style, but it's biggest drawback was the color was too light.

I found this one that seems to be a darker color. What do you guys think about how close this one gets to the Mystery of the Blues sweater?

Doesn't matter if it's screen accurate or not - it looks nice and I really need to think about a new cardigan. That one looks great!

Thanks for posting this, Buff.

That's a nice find. Though, as a MOB cardigan, it looks too thin, the weave too tight. The lapel also looks a bit narrow, but that's hard to tell. But, as Jens said, it's a nice cardigan nonetheless.

Kind regards,
Indy

Yeah Indy, I think the lapel on the brown one looks wider than the lapel on the charcoal one in front. I guess it depends on how much the lapel is folded over. I seem to remember that the MotB sweater was a thicker wool, like a rag wool sweater. This is the closest that I have found so far.

Well, as you can imagine, I was thinking of adding a line of knitted sweaters and cardigans to my clothiers line, but I'm juggling so many things at the moment, that I think this is well on the back-burner for the moment...

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Nice find! I, too, have the Orvis cardigan. Other than the light color, it is great. I wear it under my Wested all winter long, and am always comfortable, even in the harsh Chicago winter.

I thought it looked way more like a tank pilot's pullover sweater.

I think we are pretty sure it was a shawl cardigan.

Right, he'll get started in April, then, when it starts to get cold down there... ;)

Where can find this? I've seen still photos of Ford in the jacket and cardigan, but I've never seen the program itself.

Also, can someone give more details on the color and style of the cardigan?

Thanks, VP. I'd found that, too, but it's so hard to see much detail, as the ending -- at least as it appears on YouTube -- seems very darkly lit.

I'd be very interested in finding a similar cardigan and scarf to wear with one of my Westeds as it gets colder -- and whenever we go up to Flagstaff.

These sweaters wouldn't be too long to wear under an Indy jacket? - I like the look but not if 3-4" of sweater is exposed at the bottom.

Hey Bufflehead, do let us know if you pull the trigger and get one of these, I for one would be very interested in how it turns out.

That one has not been available for quite some time. This one is available in khaki,,maybe it could be dyed darker brown.

TR, I think it could be dyed, but in that picture that does look awfully long on that model. The one I posted didn't show it on a model. I think we may have problems trying to wear a 1980's jacket with a 2000's style sweater. Oh darn!

I wouldn't be opposed to having the bottom of the sweater trimmed/hemmed to fit nicely under the jacket, would work better on ToD lengthed jackets though.. My new US Wings is pretty long, so it would be great!

Harrison must have tucked his in :P

I have a few cardigans, one in particular is of this style. The shawl collar cardigan is slightly longer than the jacket, but can bunch up at the waist (generally by itself) and doesn't look that bad. It's just kinda the nature of the beast with this jacket being somewhat short. I can say they fit slightly better with the U.S Wings jacket, as they are longer and also roomier up top
