conversion Webley question

Post by dr. tyree »

Will a Webley which has had the conversion to fire .45 ACP rounds still fire the .455 cartridge as well, or is it only suitable for the .45 ACP after the conversion?

I wouldn't try it. A .45 ACP is a smaller caliber than a .455
Your gun would probably blow up taking your hand with it.
If you're lucky, the barrel might flower like in the Looney Tunes catrtoons.

Actually, the bore sizes are within tolerance(.45 ACP=.452", .455 Webley=.455"), the headspace using the .45 ACP with half moon clips is far greater than the .455. The firing pin may not even reach the primer on a .455 round placed in a .45 ACP converted Webley. .455 Webley rounds have a very thin rim. The conversion process is cutting the rear of the cylinder for the thicker rimmed .45 ACP or the .45 Auto Rim, which is the .45 ACP round designed for revolvers. If you don't want to use the moon clips, scout up a few boxes of these. Remington may still produce them.
