Sweet! I really like what you've done. What size is that hat?

Hmm. There doesn't seem to be much taper on your Fed, and I ordered a size 58, and got enough taper on mine to the point where I had to make an LC hat out of it instead of a Raiders.

I really like it! You are one of the few here who didn't shape your hat too tall. It fits your face and in my opinion that is the most important. when you wear it out on the street the average person will get an imediate impression as to whether it looks good and is unlikely to recognise it as an indiana jones hat much ;ess which movie or scene! I am very glad that Fedora has finally brought the dimensions into a clear view and that people are following that advice

nice job indiana g. Is there anyway you could post a shot like the first pic but tilted down a little so we can see how wide the center crease is?

Outstanding job!! With some work, and patience the Federation makes a fine Raiders fedora. The thing is, sit on the hat, crush it up, kick it around and then put the new creases in. Many times, with some patience and experimentation, you can get great results. Don't worry about hurting the hat. Most good felt hats will not be hurt by this sort of stuff. I used to be scared of messing with my hats years ago. These days, I know you can't hurt them. I have regularly taken the back side of a wooden handled brim brush and beat the stew out of mine to break down the stiffener and make the hat looking more "lived in". Have fun with your hats. thanks for the kind words gents. this is my experimental hat and i just wanted to establish the general shape of it before i really go to town on it.

i'll snag some pics of the centre bash tonite that are more clear (taking pictures in a mirros is tough work :? ).

its funny how bashing the hat makes the overall shape change. when i started out with the centre pinch the hat looked quite tapered. as you introduce the side dents and manipulate how far they go back, you can actually straighten the crown up. this was my first crack at bashing an indy hat....i believe i played around with a cowboy hat many moons ago with some steam and without the wealth of knowledge that was available from you guys and girls. for that, i thank you all.

akubras are darn good hats....not as buttery or luxurious as the AB, but well made like the HJ without the poor felt. not bad price, fast delivery, great customer service at hatsdirect, easy to bash...i'm quite happy with it.

i'm also working on another hat project as well....will post details soon...

I got a 58 and it's got not so much a taper as much as a curvature to the crown. But my bash isn't really any specific style, I guess. Maybe close to the Nepalese bar scene. Deep bash in the top, no turn, tight crease in the front, rounded sort of "camel humps" crown, higher front, lower back, etc. But I dig it. :)

Anyway, that bash looks quite good. The turn came out really nicely, it seems.

thanks indiana g for posting that pic. If you can, do you think you can narrow the center crease a little. I think if you did this it would make you humps look less sharp or pointy. I don't think the center creas has to be that spread out / wide.

thanks for the tip bending oak....thats what i was playing with last night actually....the wide centre crease evolved from bashing the pinch and the side dents the way i did. i've been trying to round the humps out....it'll take some time but i'll keep at 'er.

cheers.

I'm sorry if I came off as to say he did a bad job. I think he did a real good job. I was just looking at his pics and was trying to find out why the humps looked a little sharp. One of the things I have notic is that a lot of people spread out thier center dent.

you didn't come off like that at all bending oak. i went back and played with the centre dent some more last night and the angles are more rounded now. comments like that are extremely helpful and i would never take that the wrong way. thanks for the help.

oh yeah, thats sparkplug (sparky) in my avatar. he's an english bulldog. don't you wish you had a poker face like that?

I love the bulldog, He fantastic. I almost had one just a few months ago. We had the little girl home for a couple of days and I had a big reaction to her. We had to return her to the breader. It broke my sons ( six years old) heart.

I agree with you on that. it is the way we learn ( or at least for meI would lov to see more shots of you adjustments.

I really don't know how to make it up to him. He reminds me almost evry day.

I just recieved my AB delux. I have to start working on putting in the creases myself.
