What's up with reeds? When did they start using them? Did they always have a nylon or wire filiment in them? Were they leather before they were fabric backed vynil?

Umm....I don't get all the fuss. It's reeding....just like the reeding on most hat sweatbands.

Nope, it's dark brown(!) reeding in opposite to the lighter brown vintage reeding tape I'm using or the black reeding tape you see in most hats today.
Good news on a side note: the custom made roohide for my improved sweatbands is waiting at the p.o. and I found a supplier for dark brown reeding tapes yesterday as well

Pardon my ignorance! I just checked my Akubra and an old Stetson- they both have darker brown reeding tape.
