MBA shirt vs Wested shirt

I don't know if there was ever a topic about this but I really wanna know. What is the difference between the MBA-shirt and the Wested-shirt?
Does anyone have both? I only own the MBA shirt and I got it for almost four years now and it really serves me still very well and not worn out.
Feedback please and some comparison pics of both of them together would be nice too.

Here ya go, Doctor. Wested left, MBA right. Both are Raiders-stylee.
Wested feels like a "real" shirt, while the MBA definitively has a "costume" feel to it. The Wested comes in the perceived colour, while the MBA's pinkish khaki is what actually was used (yes yes, another colour controversy, but still...
).
MBA comes in a nice length, while the Wested could be a tad longer... the wested sleeves are kinda narrow too... MBA fits me a bit better overall.

Thanks Scandinavia Jones. Looks quite good. Maybe I should try a Wested too to really feel what the difference is... but I really do like my MBA. I dread the day that my MBA shirt will be totally worn out and I have to part with it. Brrrrrrr. Don't like that thought at all. Even because you can't get another MBA anymore...

The other difference is that the MBA is 100% accurate, (fit, collar, pocket flaps, cuffs, epaulets, buttons etc) while Wested is not.

What is different about the fit, collar, pocket flaps, cuffs, buttons, etc. on the Wested that makes it somehow significantly less screen accurate than Noel's?
Or is this one of those "bust out your ruler" situations?

Yeah, but you can get NH shirts now which are exactly the same thing.

Less signifiantly? The Wested is not significantly less accurate than the MBA if all what you are looking for is a khaki shirt with two stripes (pleats).
Otherwise, the shape of the collar, the cuffs, the buttons, the fit, the size and placement of the epaulets, the way it wrinkles, is completely different.
I own a Magnoli and a MBA shirt and if you don't own the MBA you will never understand the difference.

MBA was Noel's company, which he closed down in 2003. But the MBA shirts are now available with the name of Noel Howard. They can be ordered by emailing him. The price list and the email address are on the main site,
http://indygear.com/contacts/noel.shtml.

Exactly. Very well said, and that goes for all the shirt offerings too, not just the Magnoli.
The swatches Noel used to create the shirt were taken from original stock used for the films. Although many of the shirt offerings by other vendors are absolutely well made, quality shirts, the NH is the only one that uses the original fabric and color. That's just fact.
I think the good majority of members are well satisfied by most of the shirt offerings and take them as good enough, which is awesome. I've always said the more we have to offer the members, the better. It's best to have these choices so you can have a good shirt that is a good replica if you can't afford the NH or don't like it for whatever reason. I just happen to think as Platon does. Until the other vendors search for the same fabric and do a bit of a color change, the NH will still be THE shirt for me.
Everyone who knows me knows I'm a stickler for screen accuracy and thats what I shoot for. The NH is and always will be a costume shirt made for a character in a film. They knew HF would be wearing a leather jacket over his shirt in 100+ dg heat, thus the light weight of the shirt. People continue to say it's just a costume shirt, but a shirt is a shirt. It's simply a lightweight shirt...that's all. It's not going to fall apart on you. People make it seem as though it is flimsy and will deteriorate in a hard wind or rain or something, which is just not the case. Just ask Schwammy if he ever sticks his nose in here. I know he wore the #$%&! out of his MBA shirt for years and never had a problem with his, except a bad dye job once, but thats another thread. He's only one of many who have had and worn their MBA shirts for years and never had problems with them.

I bought two MBA shirts back in 1998, and I wear them all the time, at least once a week during the summer. They've been to Denmark, Germany, Kuwait, Iraq, and Thailand, and have served me well everywhere they have gone, just like my Aldens. I don't have so much as a loose stitch on either shirt.

I thought ITG had one of Dan's shirts back from when he was making them.

That would be Mrs Deadlock, IIRC... she made Indy customs out of off-the-rack shirts and offered them to the board some time ago.

Mrs. Deadlock and Dan are not the same person, but both did offer custom made shirts for a brief period of time. The mrs. Deadlock shirts were modded Walmart shirts and were very good shirts for the price they cost (total was somewhere in the thirties I think). Dan's shirts (that's Daniel Riser Tone, who you met at the '05 QM) were, as far as I know, completely custom. This is going back a bit so the specifics are a little fuzzy.

Tone,
ITG's was a Dan shirt at FL...I was wearing the MrsDeadlock shirt on Saturay night during cracking and at dinner and I like it VERY much! In fact, I wear it more than any other Indy shirt (and I have a Cabelas, 2 MBA's and a Wested) I love my MBA's, (wore it on the Saturday during the day) but for daily wear, it's gotta be a Mrs 'D'!

AFAIK yeah. Walmart ran out of shirts, dunno 'bout Dan.

Well they have one thing in common, and that is that they're BOTH replicas of the shirt as seen in Raiders. - I've compared the current offerings from NH to the MBA shirt and they're VERY close. But not 100%.

The latest Noel Howard's shirts have a different (new) design... more accurate (according to Noel) to one of the shirts he owns from the films (he wasn't able to remember which one between LC and ToD).
Happens that the one I bought was the first one of the "new run" but I don't have any previous ones to compare it with.
NH are the most accurate available.

Can you post us a pic of yours and we can compare it to a pic of an MBA shirt. I was lucky enough to get an MBA shirt on ebay and i love it...100% screen accurate

mmh yes of course I could (although there are already a lot around COW) but it wouldn't help a lot if I don't have a MBA shirt to compare in the same picture. We could try going by measure... anyway at the first summit I'll attend we can surely do some proper comparations.

Well here we're talking of design. The colour never changed in the Howard shirts... according to him the material and the colour are the exact same used for the film. I can guarantee about the material (since the sweat sticks to it in the exact same way we see in the cairo scenes
)... about the colour you have to believe the man
Post your picture Toldog07 so I can take a similar one and we will see what comes out from it

Well, since this has sort of turned into a debate over the MBA shirt color, I figured I'd post a few pics in here of my own MBA shirt. This shirt was ordered new, back in 1999. It has NOT been re-dyed, just naturally aged, and while it never really had much of a pinkish hue to it, what little pink there may have been, has faded away nicely, leaving a color much, MUCH closer to the film used shirt. Take a look:
This photo is with the flash on, to try and simulate bright sunshine (one of the few pics I have of this shirt in outside lighting was taken at Stonehenge on a gloomy day, and it was under a jacket...
)
Here's the shirt under different lighting and with no flash, similar to the color of the film shirt in dimmer lighting.

Nice to see the photos, but a flash can never get close to the same color as bright sunlight. The two aren't even in the same ballpark.

I agree, though I can say (for what it's worth) that the color of my shirt, in sunlight, is almost exactly the same as in that photo with the flash. The only difference between the color in the sun and the color with the flash is that the flash washes the color out a bit, while the sun sort of enhances the natural color of the shirt, if that makes any sense...
I'd try for a nice outdoor shot of the shirt, but the November sky here in New England isn't being cooperative today...

Flash is white, sun is a bit yellowish.

Well, can you tell I'm bored?
Here's the best I could muster, I know it's still not a full outdoor shot, but it IS direct sunlight, albeit not BRIGHT sunlight (again, New England weather). It pretty much matches what we see with the flash photo, just not as washed out.
If the clouds ever part, I'll snap a couple pics outdoors, but this is a start.
I know this thread started off as a comparison of Wested vs. MBA/NH, but I don't have a Wested shirt to compare with my MBA shirt...yet...
Anyway, apologies to anyone if it appears as though I'm leading this thread astray, just trying to show that with a few years of regular wearing and washing, the MBA shirts will match up quite nicely to what we see on screen.

I'll try to get some digital pictures taken of my MBA shirt together with the shirt a tailor in the phillipines made for me. He tried to copy the MBA shirt and looks quite nice. Get back with you on that. I will have to send those pictures to someone to post here somewhere because I don't have a website.

These are buttons from 3 separate MBA Raiders shirts.
Erri, do you think you could get shots of the buttons on your NH shirt? I'm wondering what color the new buttons are?

Cool, guys. Thanks.
I wrote to Noel and sent him several good screen caps before he made his return public and asked him if it would be possible to fix the button placement on the Raiders shirts as he was using the button placement for LC on all his shirts. I also asked him if he could make the shirts a bit more form fitting as the shirts from the films and it appears he's done both. Now, I can't say I'm partly responsible for this because I have no idea if any other gearheads follwed suit, but I'd like to think my coorespondance with Noel produced these results on the new shirts.
There really isn't that much of a difference in either instance but it is nice to have them corrected.
