There was not much hesitation in my decision as to which fedora to don this morning. As I looked outside at the threatening weather......and the threat of severe weather throughout the day, I reached for my recently acquired AB to take with me.
It has served me well today.....in a steady, heavy downpour....still looks great!!

Nashua NH was hit with some heavy down pours while I played Raiders Of The Lost Dishwasher Parts for my wife this Saturday. The rain soaked THROUGH to the liner. I'll have you know that after I got home and put the fedora on the hat stand, and wore it the next day... there was no new taper.

I don't know, actually... I never actually measured it.

Another rainy day here in Philly, and I once again wore my Akubra Feddie regular to work, along with my trenchcoat. I look like I stepped out of The Big Sleep or something.

Anyway, I've come to a conclusion. Even when it's REALLY rainy, if it's AT ALL windy, I'm leaving the umbrella at home and just wearing the hat. My raincoat will keep me MOSTLY dry, my clothes will stay dry the rest of the way, and the hat keeps my head dry while getting a nice workout.

Wearing the hat is more convenient anyway, because I carry a briefcase to work every day. With an umbrella, I have to worry about the thing snapping from being blown inside out (it's happened before), or just being yet ANOTHER thing I have to carry, if I stop off to grab something on my walk home. Even if it's really windy, I can just hold my hat on top of my head and at least I'm no worse off than when I'm carrying the umbrella, and if the hat gets blown out of shape, I can always just reshape it when I get home. Lord knows it'll be wet enough.

So, here's to wearing hats on rainy days instead of umbrellas.

Rain!? As in water falling from the sky. I thought that was just a myth. Though I have a faint memory of seeing it once, but it might have been in a movie.

hehe yeah we have had our fair share here the last couple weeks havn't we? got to say my akubra does great in the rain, havn't taken the ab out in the heavy stuff yet.

....yeah I remember life in the desert! Great area, I'll be back out there for a Marathon in January....looking forward to returning to the Valley.


....and Solo, I've pretty much reached the same concusion....even down here in RAINY Mobile! My AB keeps me just about as dry as an umbrella with a lot less hassle.

Are you talking about the P.F.Chang's Rock 'n Roll Marathon? Are you running the whole thing?

Yes! I ran the first one several years ago (was supposed to run last year, but was injured )....looking forward to the race this year.....then head up to Flagstaff and put my new AB thru it's paces for a few days. I love it out there!
