The lesser known maker

Following on the heels of Xfootdoc:

Which "lesser known" whip makers work do you admire?

Whose whips would you include in a collection if you were not allowed to buy (by law, budget restrictions, or divine decree) "big name", "well known" maker's whips?

I realize "lesser known" "well known" and "big name" may be too subjective, but such is the nature of the hypothetical.

Yes!!

He does very nice work.

Right now I am looking a one of his 8 plait latigo bull whips. It is grand.
Some of his wooden handle whips are striking.

Thanks for your response.

I'll submit a few of my favorite "lesser known" makers:

James Gentry- Texas
Greg Fiebach- California
Mike Brower- Michigan

There are others but, in my opinion, these makers do truly noteworthy work.

Bogg,
how many of his do you have?
It seems like every time there is one of his whips on ebay,
you are the one who buys it.

If you mean Mike Brower?

I have only one of his whips, which I got kind of by accident.

But, it was a real pleasant surprise when I received it.

I was very impressed with the quality of his work; so impressed, that I called him on the phone to compliment him (something I had never done before).

He is in "beautiful downtown Burbank" I believe.

As far as I know he does not have a website, but from time to time he offers whips for auction on you know where.

Goldwingreg is his you know where nom de plume.

He does very nice cowhide bull whips as well as kangaroo.

How do you define 'lesser known maker'?

I suppose saying that a lesser known maker who usually doesn't come up on this forum might be a start.

Another consideration might be if the maker has a website.

In Australia there's quite a few whipmakers who aren't even on the internet and do very good work.

It is difficult to define the term "lesser known."

Just because I haven't heard of a maker doesn't mean he
isn't widely known regionally, or well known in another country.

Frankly, I have learned about only a very few "new" makers
through this forum. New names come to me mostly through the
internet as opposed to the old days when it was word of mouth.

One that may be lesser known to Indy fans who does fabulous work...Mike Murphy.

Also Jerry Rasmussen does some fine work. I also like Rhett Kelly's work on nylons as well as dogsled whips (Mark-can't remember his last name).
