Hey Guys,
After being invited to a Halloween party, and realizing I have no costume, my Indy gear was the first thing to pop into mind. I have everything except the Hat, Whip, and correct belts. All else comes from Wested.
I love Fedoras,
but, being a thin little man I just dont look quite right in one, so I wouldnt ever wear it.
Ive looked on Ebay, and found some that have the look, but I dont want to spend a lot of money, preferebly not over $60 bucks. Ive never been a lurker of this forum, since I never really planned on getting one in the first place, so my question is, with less than a week left, any ideas of where I can pick one up? Or if anyone would be willing to let me borrow one, (who has a small head) that would be fantastic
I can always find a costume whip some place, thanks so very much,
Josh

Hey NewJersey. I think that with the time restraints, you could spend a little more and get an Akubra. Its a great hat and I heard that they ship quickly. I have one and I think it looks great.

Akubra, Ive heard of those..dont you hafta trim them? I dont know a lot about bashing, and all the other terms used...Im looking for a Fed I can just throw on, and not worry about messing 'round with it. What about I found some of the "officially licensed" hats from....Universal..I think. Anyone have one of these?

Lets just say those aren't the greatest...they're made of wool. An Akubra is a hat that will last for years. They are made of rabbit felt. Many members here have them and like them. You don't necessarily have to trim them, just work the brim a little bit. Here is a link to Pagey's bashing tutorial. Its VERY easy.

I have a Dorfman Crushable hat I can sell you cheap. Not the greatest Indy hat, by far, but it will do the job. I can ship it out as soon as tomorrow, if you want it.

Alright, as much as people like to bash the Dorfman Pacific liscenced hats, this is honestly gonna be the best hat for him. He doesn't need to "spend more" to get something that he is never going to wear more than once or twice a year.
My opinion? Get the liscenced hat and have fun at the party you're going to.

Woops, completely missed the fact that it was ONLY for a costume. In this case, yea it works.

For the costume I think the DP will be perfect. That is the hat I wear for my Indy costume and will be until I can afford an AB.

Sent my PM too. Can't vouch for the quality of the other hats, but I am relatively nearby.

I own a DP and it is a good costme hat. The DP can take a fair share of abuse but it tapers easily and its made of wool, not the best material for a hat. I ordered a AB 2 weeks ago. Can't wait to get it!

the DP's dispopulairty (if that is even a word) intrigues me to the point that i want one.....but then again, i'm twisted in that sense.

I love my DP, I put it on today, told it I loved it and as I looked at it, I realized it's not a bad hat, just misunderstood!

I must admit, as much as I may pick on the Dorfman for it's screen INaccuracy, I still have a special place in my heart for this hat. Like many Indy fans, the first Indy hat I ever owned was a Dorfman I picked up at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost in Disney World in 1991. That one was destroyed by fire after 6 years and I went to Disney that same year and picked up another one. That lasted another 2 years before I found the Indy Gear site and decided to pick up something more "accurate", (a Stetson Temple, HA!). More than a few of us found our way into the world of Indy Gear merely by the chance purchase of a brown wool felt hat. For me, it all started with the hat. Had it not been for those "official" hats, my passion for gear may have never developed into what it is today. I have a lot of fond memories of those DP hats.

Well said GCR...I've got a lot of fond memories of my DP's as well and it is that hat that started my gear collection. I still have my first DP that I got in about 1991 at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost. My Dad was mad that he paid $40 for a hat, but considering that I never took that hat off, it was the best money he ever spent. Years later I returned to the outpost and had to buy another DP, and it has been the main attraction on my desk through college and law school.

I
had a soft spot in my heart for the old dp fedoras, but that was before mine shrunk to something resembling Yogi Bear's hat.
For a one night thing you'll be fine. Also, you can still buy Indyblues' hat if it's too big, just stuff some papertowels under the 'sweatband' and it'll fit good enough. Be quick though, less than a week to pumpkin day.

It's not a bad looking hat. People around here don't like it because they see the ads that say "exactly like the hat Indy wore in the movies", and it's not. They see it as false advertising.
IMO, the DP has a good color, and the silhouette is close.
I think Lucas went with the teardrop crown because it looks better on most people, and you don't need an exact fit. They can be sold as S, M, or L, and if your head touches the top of the hat (because it's slightly large) it doesn't matter the way it would on a center dent.
