Hrmm, well, I suppose that's the kind of knife he had, but in my honest opinion, I think it's junk :-X.

$20 bucks for a knife is cheap, and with a cheap price, comes a cheap knife. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe's a darn good knife, it could be like the fed, decivingly low price. Who knows? I'm just sayin: it looks good, looks like Indy's, but I'd do some looking at say, a gun and knife show before buying it. For a to-look-at prop, it's fine, but I'd look around some more. But hey, that's just me!

We had a long thread running about the knife at the old COW and IndyFan (ah, the glory days). The opinion varied from the Kamp-King model, remington, or Ulster to a plain old simple Boy Scout Knife (which the Boy Scout Knife was based on some of these manufacturers during it's long run). The basis for the Boy Scout knife theory was that Indy could have possessed since he was an Eagle Scout.

However the foremost authority is Michaelson. He tracked down via his father-in-law(?), that most likely this was a CASE brand knife, Stockman model.

If you go to ebay and search on "Boy Scout" Knife. You will see quite a selection. If you do a search with "CASE" "Stockman" "Knife" you will also see what is extremely close. In fact last year, Rabbitooth sniped one right from under me that looked #### close to this screen grab:


Looking at the screen grab the blade length is at least 4 to 5 inches. So I would agree that the CASE Stockman model are of that length. The Boy Scout model seems to fall short on the blade length.

That pic is great, Sergei! I've worked with knives for many years... the things we've got to look for are round ended bolsters and stag scales. That particular style of stag is a good place to narrow down potential look-a-likes. I've seen that on many European (German & English) made knives. I love CASE (I carry around a smaller stag-handled stockman Case for those fancier occasions), but I don't think it's the right way to go. Maybe an older-model Case would match, but I don't think any of their current offerings match up properly. I'm going to scour around again and see what I can find...

I agree with you Indy Magnoli, somewhat. The Stockman comes in 3 sizes with the largest around 4 inches. And the large ones are slim. I think either the CASE folding hunting knife or trapper look closer to the screen grap. The blade is easily at least 4 1/2" and the body is not slim or curved. As soon as I find something I will repost. I would really like to ground out on this hunt. It's been bugging me for years.

To switch topics, why do you think about Cutco knives? I know that they are not Indy, but good God they have a lifetime, anything gurantee. I have two of their "bullwhip" model (surprise) and their trapper version. I'm really impressed with the quality of Cutco and you can't buy them through a store, only reps.

I did a search on Case XX Stockman and found one. It's a 1979 Brown Bone (almost black) 1979 vintage. Also has the curved end pieces.

...it was my wife's uncle (an ardent knife collector) who showed me one that was a dead ringer to the Raiders knife, and it was a rather long Stockman Case, as seen in the picture above. It dated from the 1930's too, which just added to the 'discussion'. Regards. Michaelson

From the screen capture on Indygear, I think the Case Trapper was a closer match then the Stockman. I don't see the slight "S" curve in Indy's knife that the Stockman model has.
Indy's knife's bolsters also appear to be rounded on the ends but flat on the sides. I haven't seen ANYTHING like that in my research for THE knife. Anyone else notice this?

Well, I just bought a new Case Stockman. Four inches closed. Black bone. Jigged handles. Until a definitive answer is found, that's good enough for me right now. Close enough for rock and roll and durn good knives.

Where from, Chamorro? Dang you!

I don't like the scales on the Case knives. I've always preferred rough or polished stag to jigged bone. As for Cutco, I haven't handled them before. I own tons of different knives and carry an Emerson everyday (it's the one thing I own and use that isn't vintage... I even shave with a brush and soap!).

I've seen bolsters like that before... the problem with this knife is that it's rather simple... in other words, there aren't many unique things that will distinguish it as a particular make/model of knife. I think we've got our work cut out for us...

I've never read this post before and never really thought about Indy's knife as "gear". After reading it, however, I remembered I had a knife my Dad gave me years ago (but I've never used). Somehow, I remembered exactly where it was also! It's a Kamp-King with the ridged black bone body and steel ends. Pretty close to Indy's knife. Close enough for me anyway. Wow, that means this knife was my first piece of Indy Gear and I had no idea! Thanks Dad!

I know lows, and I believe Home Depot, carry case knives. most of your harware stores would have them too.

I think I'm in the Boy Scout Knife camp, since I seem to recall Indy's knife has a lanyard ring on it, which is not a feature on any stockman's knife I've ever seen. Indy seems to go in for lanyards in a big way, no?
