I have been looking around the web for a whip holder. The construction of the whip holder looked simple so I decided to try and make my own. Well, making my own whip holder wasn't very successful. So I decided to just buy one, but I don't know where to buy one. So if any of you all know where to purchase a whip holder for a fair price, PLEASE inform me.

From what I've heard, MolaRam makes a good non-slip holder. He's a member here. Shoot him a PM.

If screen accuracy isn't a big concern for you, there's also Mark Allen (yes, the guy who does whips too).

Todd at www.toddscostumes.com has a pretty good adjustable whip holder for $19.95. It'll ensure a tight fit on any size whip you've got.

If you're making a static Indy display, then the Noel Howard might be a nice option. However, if you're planning to wear the whip on the belt, go for a non-slip version from one of the above mentioned vendors. The NH isn't snug enough to hold a whip securely.

Do a forum search for 'whip holder' - you'll find some reviews...

I agree, Mola Ram's whip holder is awesome. I own one, and it's never let me down.

I've seen Mola Ram's whip holder and it is nice. The price is very nice too.

That design is very clever. It's much more secure than the "velcro adjustable" type. I have one and it's very good.

Ive learned more about working with leather in general, and I've just
gotten better at making these since Swindys holder. His was also
made more than a year ago. But im still using the same hide as holder
#1 was made from




It is pretty much a Cowhide version of
the whip artist holder, and the width is greater
and the leather is thicker.

I can't vouch for the whip holder, but I will say that the whip holder I used (Mark Allen) was a little loose for my whip. Part of that's because my whip has a rather heavy wooden handle, which was prone to sliding out of place (or looking kind of stupid when I wore it with the handle sticking out to one side), but it was still a little loose. I'm hoping changing to either a snake whip or one of the better-constructed bullwhips out there will help.

Still, Mark Allen's holders are fine if you're on a budget (I don't know how much Mola Ram charges), but they are a bit loose.

If the NH holder uses velcro to "adjust", I wouldn't trust that to be really functional. When you're moving around a lot with a bag (especially one you've loaded with a fertility idol or sankara stone or grail prop), you want something that won't have any chance of coming undone.

I know I am looking forward to getting my new whip holder from Mola Ram...I'll post some pics when I get it.

When he says non slip, he means it, folks. I've ran a couple laps with my whip in Adam's whip holder, and it didn't slip an inch!

I have a Whipartist roo hide whip holder. The design is the similar to Mola Rom's but with the advantage of being thinner and has higher tensile strength than cow hide.

DUDES! SIMILAR?! Whipartist DESIGNED this holder,and sold it LONG before Mola Ram! He didn't copy Mola Ram! With all due respect, Mola, you do a great job, but it is quite plagiaristic to not readily give credit where credit IS due.

Sorry to get so snippy, but just because Whipartist doesn't post here doesn't mean he's just forgotten and no longer does AWESOME work! Geez! I tend to stand up for vendors that are as friendly, accomodating and professional as Ben(Whipartist). He's TOP notch!

not to directly copy Bens holder. Thats why I made it out
of cowhide instead of roo, and the width and length is
also diffrent. I even put that Ben sells the holder on my website,
and put a direct link to his page. He is the creator, and Ive

Not to be another screaming "Copyright Infringement", but I had made a whipholder very similar to this back in '83-84. Mine was made out of one of my mother's old purse straps! I left the D-ring on the end, which serves the same purpose as the roller on Ben & Mola's holders,folded a beltloop into it & sewed it, but instead of a snap I sewed Velcro to the strap to hold it closed. I used what I had around the house, which explains the Velcro replacing a snap. I was only 13-14 yrs old at the time & figured the Velcro would hold better than a snap -- didn't think too much along the lines of screen accuracy at that time!

Mola Ram, it wasn't so much directed AT you, just the discussion in general was making you the hero, and ignoring Ben. I just wanted to point it out. I'm sure yours is great, to, and at one time I was going to buy one of yours because of the cowhide option. But after using my Whipartist for a loonng time, and on many strenuous hikes and what-not, the 'roo holds up splendidly and is as strong as steel! Not to mention, because it has a strong tensil strength, you can REALLY cinch it up on the whip without worry of tearing. It's awesome! And since Ben isn't here, I thought I'd cover his back! No biggie!

Thats why mine is wider
There's nothing to worry about tearing wise.
It wont happen. I take the straps for the holders from
the best part of the hide, so the only way you could really
do that would be if you hung from it.

I actually didn't know about Whipartist's holder.

Did you recently add that plastic piece to your whip holders? The one I bought from you last year didn't have that and I was kind of curious if you'd updated the design?

When I made my own copy of the Whipartist design and yours a while back I found pieces like that at Hobby Lobby and I added it to the loop. I also went back and added it to the one I bought from you as well. I found that it helped the strap release quicker which made getting the whip out less of a hassle.

I have to say other than a small issue with my belt size I had with mine Adam's whip holder is the way to go or this design in general if your looking to try and make your own.

It's more important to me to have the whip stay on the belt over being screen accurate.

Yea,
I had to. I had been keeping it off because It too closely replicated
Whipartists holder, but I realized after that it makes a really really
big diffrence. After yours, I also made the belt loop a bit larger,
and changed the distance between the snaps and rivets slightly.

IF we ever get to see Indy 4 I think Lucas and Spielberg would be wise to use this design. It would save them a lot of headache when it came to shooting the action scenes.
