I know the lambskin was used in the films, but as we all know, its not the same leather that it was back then. Which of the leathers gives the best screen accurate appearance (without distressing) in terms of the way it looks, and drapes?

Of the leathers available, I'm still going to have to say Wested's goatskin. It's definitely softer than Flightsuits right out of the bag, and just gets softer with wear, so the proper draping shows immediately.

He's asking for a comparison to the ORIGINAL lamb...the one no longer available. Using THAT as the benchmark, my opinion is 'yes', it does drape as well as the ORIGINAL lamb.

I also preferenced my statement 'of the leathers available'. Personally, the only I've seen that drapes LIKE the original lamb was the lambtouch cowhide...but that one is no longer available in brown...only black. JMO

Nope. Not saying that at all.

It's just that the physical weight of the original lambskin and the current lambskin are completely different. It's the actual weight of the leather that causes drape..the physical 'pull down'. The soft goatskin HAS that weight, as well as the softness to allow the curves we associate WITH that draping. The new lambskin is soft and good looking. The goatskin, though, compares very well in appearance with the original stuff.

I don't know anything other than one of the currently offerered lambskins offered by wested (I own one, but not sure if its the dark brown or authentic) but I think Michaelson might be saying that the goatskin has the look (ie drape) of the orignal lamb moreso than the modern lamb does, but that doesn't necessarily mean that its softer than the modern lamb. The modern lamb could in fact be too soft for the original. You'll have to ask Michaelson what he means. Which you did.... this was just my interpretation on what he meant... but I'd like a confirmation by him, lol

Shucks, now you tell me.....

Let's review.....we're talking about comparison of the ORIGINAL jacket...the one made from the lambskin NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

That said.....sure...ANY good lambskin will drape beautifully. It's the nature of the material. In this case, the goatskin does drape like the heavier, NO longer available lambskin that Peter USED to use....but don't lose any sleep over the new lambskin. It's just fine, and drapes beautifully. After it's worn for a while and loosens up even more from wear, you won't be able to tell it from the original heavier version, as gravity will have it's way regardless. It will just take a little longer for the new lambskin to reach the level that the OLD lambskin, and the right out of the bag goatskin achieves.

Ahh, I see. Okay - I understood we were talking about the older lambskin, I was just worried about my new jacket and was concerned that it wasn't as good as it could have been (meaning I could have gotten the goat) but that's alright. As long as in the end it looks alright too, that's fine.

ABSOLUTELY! Your lambskin will look perfect after you've worn it for a short period of time. They all have to take on the shape of a person's body shape, and the 'drape' can only occur from use.

You'll be pleased, I guarantee.

Lucky for me the weather is cooling down now, it's like... sleep-in-jacket weather.

Alright, so basically, the lamb now and the lamb then are still really good, but the older lamb developed the perfect drape sooner than the new lamb. Got it.

On a side note: I got a Raiders March hummed at me yesterday... and the only gear I was wearing were khakis and my jacket. The guy didn't even know me. I guess the jacket looks good.

im sure it does..my lambskin drapes perfectly now! i love it. My next one is going to be screen accurate..i hope!!
